    CHAPTER 1

    Going to America

    O

nce upon a time, there was a Caucasian girl named Miranda Walters, who was born and raised in the United Kingdom. She lived in London, England her whole life, but soon her parents, named Joy and Curt Walters, had a great vision of what life would be like in America. Miranda was sort of devastated about leaving her friends and family in England once they made the decision to move to the U.S. But she has many other family members who lives in the United States whom she’d never met yet, so she was ready to see what it would be like to have a life there. Once Miranda said goodbye to her friends and family, she and her parents, followed by her older brother David Walters, headed off to the airport to get ready for their flight. What part of America are we moving to again? asked Miranda. We are heading off to Los Angeles, sweetheart says her dad.

Meanwhile, there was once this African American boy named Nathan Wilson, who was born and raised in Los Angeles, California and attends school there; however, he doesn’t really get along with most of the popular students at the school. One of the reasons why is because of one of the most popular boys at the school named Cole Roberts, who is Caucasian. Both Cole and Nathan always seem to have a grudge against each other, but no one had a clue as to exactly why. Only people who may know is them two only.

As Nathan was walking in one of the school halls, one of Cole’s friends named Madison Rose, who is also Caucasian, looks at him and says, What’s up, Nathan? Nathan looks at her and says, Don’t talk to me! and continues walking. Madison giggled and said, Okay. Then, Nathan walked up to his friend named Brad Langston, who too is Caucasian, and said, Brad, how’s it going, bro? It’s going well, responds Brad, just looking to pass this test we have to take later today.

I get what you’re saying, Nathan replies. Seconds later, Cole, accompanied by some of his other friends, walked up to them. Move! says Cole to Nathan while pushing him back. Cole then walks up to Brad and says, You got what I’m here for, buddy? I bet you do. Brad looks up at him, then looks at Nathan and Cole’s friends, and answers back saying, Yes. Brad reaches in his locker and hands him some paperwork.

Cool! says Cole. Thanks, buddy. He pats Brad on his shoulder and walks away with his friends. Nathan looks at Brad and asked, What was that you handed him? Nothing bro, let’s just focus on this test, Brad says. Sure enough, they were able to pass the test, which had to do with Calculus. Crazy part about it was that both Cole and Brad had the same number of scores on their test and Cole never appeared to be that good in Calculus. He rarely passes the assignments he takes on that subject. This made Nathan realize what Brad handed him earlier that day. Shockingly, he decided to keep his mouth shut and let it go.

Hours later, Nathan comes home after hanging out with Brad afterschool for a bit because it was a Friday. Once he walked in the house, he sees his mom watching TV in their living room. Hey Nathan! says his mom whose name is Josephine Wilson. Why don’t you come here and watch TV with your momma? she asked. I’m okay, Nathan says, I’m just going to go in my room and get some sleep because I’m really tired. Okay! says Josephine. Nathan goes to his room and gets ready to go to bed.

The next day, Miranda and her family finally made it to the Los Angeles Airport. We are actually here., says Miranda’s older brother David, We are in Hollywood. Miranda cringes at him and says, This is not Hollywood, you idiot! This is Los Angeles. Same thing! says David. No, it’s not! replies Miranda with an aggressive tone. Alright, enough! shouts their mom Joy, Our cab is here, so please make sure you guys have all your things and get inside quickly. They followed her orders and headed on down to their new home. As soon as they arrived in their neighborhood, they see the house they’re going to live in and discussed how beautiful it looks to them.

They all began unpacking their things once they were settled in their new home to get ready for an outstanding journey in America. Both Joy and Curt entered the room Miranda chose for herself while she was laying on her bed, since luckily for them, the furniture was already paid for and set up in their house before they arrived. They informed her she will be transferred to a new school they had discovered on the Google website called National Union Institution. Which is apparently a highly ranked school in the area.

Even though Miranda wasn’t too happy about it, she knew it was time for her to attend school again, whether it’s in another country she’s not used to being in just yet or not. Sadly, she was worried about the fact she might not fit in with the other students because of her accent and how different things from the U.K are from things in the U.S. Either way, she was prepared to do what she had to do to keep her education afloat for herself and her parents sake. Later in the day, David and Miranda decided to go outside together so they can enjoy the view.

As they did that, a random girl approached them. She was Caucasian like Miranda and her hair had a blackish brunette color like Miranda’s as well. Instead hers was curly while Miranda’s hair was straight. You guys just moved in? asked the girl. Yeah! answers Miranda. We’re from London….in England. The girl chuckles a bit then says, I can tell by your accent already. David starts laughing and says, She’s got a point there, Captain Obvious.

Miranda hits David’s shoulder whilst telling him to shut up. She then asked him if he can let them talk alone. David giggles saying, Sure, why not? and walks back in their house. Miranda asked the girl her name while they were finally able to talk alone. She responds saying, My name is Kendall, Kendall Collins to be exact. Miranda tells Kendall her full name as well and tells her she likes her name. Thank you, says Kendall, I like you’re name too. Thank you very much. Miranda says. No problem. replies Kendall. She then asked Miranda how old she was. She responded by saying, I am seventeen years old. Kendall replies saying, Oh really? Are you currently in school?

Yes, Miranda says, I’m supposed to be attending school here at a school called National Union Institution. Oh my gosh, I go there, says Kendall. Really, that’s great, Miranda says with a huge smile on her face. Kendall notifies her that they can hang out together at the school and believes they’ll have a blast with one another. Shortly after, Miranda asked Kendall how old she was before going back inside her house for the night. Oh, I’m eighteen, but just one year up. she answers. They both chuckled then said good night to each other.

Couple days later as Monday arrived, Miranda was woken by her mom Joy who
