Beary and Crew have returned home to build a new warship to face the growing threat to the Bearilian Federation. It is one that is pointed directly at his family like a dagger to his throat.

Angelina and Octavious have discovered that old enemies have joined in the vendetta against their family. Old secrets may surface. Old threats may appear.

Prologue

Babs and Ti had returned to Asador. Ti was bothered; by what the major had said about; Andreas Prime not being their original home world. He was also worried about what other secrets the dragons and canus guards were keeping from the Maxumus Clan.

Beary and his family were on their way back from the EAQ, after being replaced by another crew. They had new orders to build a new ship. For Beary, being sent home was both a blessing and a worry. He was not sure what was expected from him and his team, or, what fleet wanted the new warship to be able to accomplish.

These are just a few of the questions and fears that weigh on our friends’ hearts as they return to Andreas Prime.

Angelina and Octavious had discovered that old enemies had joined in the vendetta against their family. Old secrets may surface. Old threats may appear.

All the pieces are now in place. It has been a month since everyone has returned.

Chapter 1

A Time of Reflection

Ti was looking out from one of the outer balconies. He was sipping a cup of tea, when a young girl, walked up.

Lord Maxumus…, Kelila started to say.

Miss. Bantelle, it is just Ti or Tiberius. What may I do for you? Ti asked, smiling at the youngest daughter of the Bantelle family.

Kelila grinned. In that case, I am just Kelila, Ti. The Missus is looking for you.

Thank you, Kelila, Ti said. As he turned around, the cup slipped off the small plate and started to fall. It was suddenly suspended in the air.

Kelila, walked over and grabbed it out of the air and handed it to Ti. Here, Ti. Do you wish me to take them to the kitchen?

Thank you, Kelila, if you don’t mind, Ti said with a smile.

Not at all, Ti. Anything we can do to better serve our prince and princess. Kelila said.

Ti smiled to himself as he walked towards the library. Teresa was the most powerful of the Bantelle cubs. Still, each seemed to have unique gifts. Patrick, the eldest male cub, was fifteen. He can learn any language almost instantly and translate, it. Plus, he is a gifted musician. Yosef is an artist, a metal-worker, and a mechanic at fourteen. He also can pass through solid material like it was air. Ceallagh and Dorothea, fourteen and thirteen, respectively, are like Kelila, who is twelve. These three, can form force fields and move objects with their minds. The youngest twin male cubs, just one year of age, Yahanan and Yaakov, don’t seem to have any powers.

Babs looked up as Ti walked into the library. Good morning. You got up early.

Yeah, I have a lot on my mind. Beary, Artemus, and the others will be visiting soon. We have a lot to discuss. How are you feeling? Ti asked.

Ti, I am just having a little morning sickness. Alexa told you it was no big deal. I am just pregnant, which is a good thing, isn’t it? Babs asked.

Ti gently cupped her face in his paws and kissed her. Yes, my love, it is a wonderful thing.

Elsewhere in the castle, Annabelle Rosa was talking to her husband, Dr. Vegus Gullstrand. Vegus, what are you worried about?

Vegus looked at his wife. It’s just you are the first of your sisters to have a cub. Or whatever our child is.

Annabelle’s eyes flashed. Exactly! Our child, Vegus! Whether it is Maxmimus, dragon, or Canus, he or she will be our child!

Vegus looked at her. Don’t you realize the kind of monster I am?

Annabelle Rosa slapped him. Come on, Canus boy, Canus out, show me how scary you can be! I’ll, go all, dragon on your tail!

Vegus looked at her, started laughing, and sat. Oh lord, when was the last time you said that to me? I am so sorry, my Annabelle.

Annabelle fell into his arms. Vegus, it is a miracle, that I can even have a cub. So, what if it’s a Weir-Dragon Maxmimus? Do you think Beary or Ti will care?

No, my love. I am just scared. I think most expectant fathers have fears, Vegus said.

Then kiss me, Vegus. I am sorry I slapped you, Annabelle Rosa replied.

He held her and kissed her. Then he grinned. No, you’re not. You like my wild side.

I love all your sides, Vegus, she cooed.

In another part of the castle, Maria was smiling at Andrew Re. "I still embarrass you, oui?"

Andrew Re laughed. No, my little fox, you do not. You do excite me though. I do love you.

Maria thought for a moment, then said, "I need to go to Candaris Prime next month and then to a few other planets to evaluate the holdings of the company."

Andrew Re nodded. I know. I am going with you.

Maria looked at him. But your duties…

Maria, Ti wants us to be together. He knows you can’t be tied down. Truth is you’re too valuable an asset. You are a great intelligence operative. We all know it. Since, I am your husband, I am your new partner, Andrew said.

Maria purred, Oui, my, under-the-covers partner, yes?

Maria, you are insatiable, Andrew Re said with a smile.

She kissed him, But, of course, my love.

Blue looked at Solara. Look, Solara, how you run the household staff is your business. My job is security.

I understand, Mr. Blue. However, you are the head dragon here, Solara pointed out.

Yes, but Gray Mane is the pack leader. They have been the main protectors, and they are imperial guards. I am just a gun-dog, Blue responded.

You do see the problem, don’t you, Mr. Blue? Solara asked.

Okay, Solara, we talk to the regent. She is the boss. Then, we get the chain of command established. Okay? Blue asked.

Patrick came out of the stacks and saw Ti. I am sorry, Sire Maxumus, I hope I am not disturbing you and our lady.

Patrick, it is just Ti. No, you are not disturbing us. I just came to bring her some honey tea. Did you find something interesting? Ti asked.

Patrick answered, A book of poetry called Ballads of Asteroff and a song book called Songs of … I am not sure with the translation. The word is Πασσιον οφ Λοϖε.

Babs smirked. "Ah well, I am not sure you are ready for those songs. The closest translation is Passion of Love. but that is not quite right either. Those are songs that mothers teach their daughters, to help prepare their husbands for love.

Patrick grinned. Oh well, maybe I should study this book more closely.

Ti smiled and took the book. I have got to learn this language. Then I can sing to you.

Babs laughed. Oh, I don’t think you need these songs to create music in my soul, she said as she rubbed her belly.

Patrick blushed. Well, I better go check with Father. I am sure there are chores for me to do.

Life around the island was starting to take shape. Several families had returned and reestablished a couple of small villages. The decision had been made to only bring Svedbergs and Maxumus to this island. The secrets this island held were just too important. Yet, a defense force of close to five hundred bears and ten dragons was now on the island. A total of eight hundred bears had repopulated the island.

Gray Mane’s pack was also growing as new pups were born into it. Life on the island was taking on a rhythm of new life.

For Beary, Artemus, and Ben, life since getting back from Bearilia Prime, had been hectic, especially as they tried to determine the design of the new warship. Two things were clear. It had to be able to carry the combined forces of at least two MSD units, which had been formed into a MSG or Special Forces Group. It also had to carry a full mixed air wing. They also wanted a new design, something that hadn’t ever been seen before.

For Ben, getting used to his new home had also been something of a learning curve. His mother-in-law, had been panicking because Lunara and Aleut were coming for a visit. The 567th MSD was supposed to arrive in about a week. It also became clear to Ben, that while Augustinus was supposed to be the boss dragon, Fire Heart, really ran the castle, which she did with an iron claw, when it came to security.

Kat was walking in the garden. Ben joined her. You got up early.

Ya, I need to go over to the airfield. Paulette is picking me up. We need to get in some stick time, Kat said.

How much longer before Caesar grounds you both? Ben asked.

A month or two. It depends. He will probably restrict space-time first and then in atmosphere flight time, Kat said. We can do simulators till a month before. So, we will stay certified.

Well, I need to go pick up Paladin, the lieutenants, and then head over to Beary’s for a staff meeting. Ben kissed her. I love you, Kat.

Kat held him tight. Ben, thank you, for loving me. I love you so much.

Ben looked at her. Are you, all right?

Yes, you dummy. I am pregnant, and my hormones are jumping all over the place. Mostly, I am just afraid I’ll wake up and find out this is just a dream, Kat said.

Ben whispered in her ear, It is, but you are my dream.

Ben Maritinus, you better get going, or you are going to be late because I’ll strip you right here and now and then have my way with you, Kat cooed with a sultry voice.

Ben just smiled, kissed her, and swatted her tail. I’ll see you tonight, he said and walked off.

Fire Heart looked at her. Lady Paulette is here. You love him, don’t you?

Kat sighed. I can’t live without him. He is my life.

Fire Heart looked at her. Oh, my lady, the Maxumus curse even touches you. Yet, you and he are not even Maxmimus.

Beary watched Erin and Maryam playing. Nicholas walked up. Beary, we will be going to see Ti soon, will we not?

Yes, Nikolaos, we will be, Beary said.

Beary, Lady Babs is with cub. This might be a good time for Sire Ti to train Ghost Wind and me, Nikolaos pointed out.

Have you talked to Lady Jessica and your parents? Beary asked.

Yes, sire, and Sir Gamey. They all said it was your decision, Nikolaos said.

Nikolaos, I know you need to train with Ti. Still, I need to think about it. Is that all right? Beary asked.

Yes, Beary. I understand that the safety of Erin, Lady Pompey, and the twins must be the first consideration, Nikolaos said.

No, Nikolaos, you’re wrong. What is best for your family is my first consideration. You might be away from your parents for months. Ti might even take you on a mission and put you in danger. These are things I must consider, Beary said.

Nikolaos responded, Beary, my life belongs to you and my clan. I am not like my brother and Maryam. I am a hunter. I need to be trained to be a hunter to better serve you.

I’ll talk to your parents, Gamey, and Ti. We will see, Beary answered with a sigh.

Nikolaos bowed and walked off.

Artemus walked over. He talked to you?

Yes. Are you really fine with the idea? Beary asked.

Artemus shrugged. He needs to grow. Jessica says she can’t teach him anymore. He has learned all she can teach him.

Ben, his bunch, Barbarous, Jane, and their execs, should be here soon, Beary said.

What about Caesar? Artemus asked.

"He and Jessica are taking some time off. They went to Candaris Prime. To Attended a medical symposium. He had Black and White fly them. Dr. Cooper is going to take his place with Nurse Apell.

I have Joshua and Chen coming also, Beary said.

Okay, I am going to head in and get the slides ready, Artemus said.

Pompey walked over. You are having a long morning already?

No, it … I feel like my head is still spinning. We have a job to do. However, we don’t really know what is expected from us, Beary said.

Pompey kissed him. "You will figure it out, my love. You have a great team. Remember, just think outside the box, something new. Use what we learned from the EAQ."

How are the twins? Beary asked.

Growing, so are Rosie and Shamus. Maryam is working overtime, so is Andreios. I wish we could get some more help. Also, I don’t want little Gracie left unprotected. We are starting to be stretched thin. Security-wise, we are okay, because Peter, Nota, and their companies are here, as is the second of the second Dragoons. But, I want someone on Grace, Pompey said.

Beary looked at her. Maybe, I shouldn’t let Nikolaos go be with Ti.

No, Nikolaos is not a protector. He is a hunter like Ti. He is an offensive weapon, Beary. We need to train him as such, Pompey said.

Beary looked at Pompey. She looked tired. Pricilla, what is it?

Beary, you and I both know that they are coming for our family. We must protect our family. That means training everyone to their potential. I am willing to die for my family. But, I will not waste one of their lives, Pompey said.

Beary held her close. Agreed, we work hard. I’ll call Mom. You go get some rest.

But, the meeting…, Pompey started to say.

Is going to deal with fighters, daggers, and medical issues. If we need you, I’ll wake you, Beary said. Alexis, take your lady upstairs and have her rest.

Certainly, Beary, Alexis said. Come on, Pricilla, just a short nap.

Beary walked in and down to Gamey’s office. You have a minute?

For you, my brother, I have all the time in the world. Gamey smiled.

I am thinking about letting Nikolaos go to train with Ti. Pricilla has concerns. She wants more help and protection for Grace Hope, Beary stated.

Shari and I have been discussing this. Commodore Gracchus is not a member of our clan. However, he has some diplomatic status, so, does our Gracie. I talked to Widja. She is sending a dragon nurse and a Maxmimus, which are remnants of the Caesar Clan. She is from the House of Livy. Her name is Aemilia Livy. The dragon is Alkaterine the Pure. She is a cousin of Widja’s. Since it is a diplomatic mission, it’s Mom’s responsibility, Gamey said.

Beary nodded. How do we solve the other problem?

Gamey shrugged. "I have hired Red Paw warriors to provide security for Kat and Paulette. Pricilla is correct. We are starting to be spread too thin. Also, Aleut wanted to talk to you. Did you get the message?"

We keep missing each other. I talked to Lunara. She said there had been a problem he was hoping we could help with. She said it was a delicate situation. They would discuss it when they got here. They are going to stay at Ben’s, Beary said.

Artemus called down, Boss, everyone is here. We are ready to start.

Okay, I’ll be right there. Anyway, we’ll talk some more, Gamey, Beary said.

Be at peace, Beary. We will figure it all out, Gamey said with a dragon’s smile.

After he left, Mrs. Morrow came in. He and Pricilla are worried, aren’t they?

Yes, Shari. However, we anticipated some of it. We just need to help figure out the situation with Nikolaos, also, how to get some help for Maryam and Andreios. Gamey shrugged.

Mrs. Morrow shrugged. We all know Nikolaos needs to train with Ti. Ghost Wind goes with Nikolaos. That is solved. The other will solve itself, somehow.

Do you know something, you Southern Witch? Gamey asked.

No, I just have a feeling, you, over-grown lizard. With that, she kissed him. Well, I have, work to do.

Gamey looked at her and whispered, I love you like a mother.

Shari turned and smiled. I love you also, my son. With that, she walked out of the office.

Gamey just dropped his head. Now I have done it. I have told her what is in my heart. I thought she would just laugh it off. Instead, she told me that she loves me. I can never win against that southern witch. Then he smiled.

Sho-Sho looked at Ice Song. Agathag is growing fast.

Yes, so are Erin and the twins. How are your siblings? Ice Song asked.

Young. Dad has them staying in the nursery till they can control their tails. Sho-Sho laughed. He says I caused enough damage. Two young dragons would be a disaster.

Ice Song smiled. We need to teach them.

Sho-Sho looked out across the valley as tears fell. My poor Erin. She has lost her innocence because of me. She has seen all the ugliness we have faced.

Ice Song looked at her. Snap out of it! She is a Valkyrie. You are her dragon. Would you, a princess, dishonor her?

Sho-Sho looked at Ice Song. I…

Ice Song dropped her head. I love you, Sho-Sho. I would die for you and Erin, so, would my Agathag. We know our duty. We are your handmaidens, as is Maryam. You have no right to question your or Erin’s strength.

In her mind, Sho-Sho heard Erin say, She is right, my love. You have tried to shield me. I am strong, and I love you.

Sho-Sho walked over and hugged Ice Song. Erin and I, love you also, but don’t die for us. Live for us.

Ice Song just kissed her friend.

Erin smiled. Mary-um, teach me the next form.

Maryam told her, Erin, I am placing rice paper on the floor. Try not to tear it as you do your form. Watch the next move.

Maryam started through the fast-knife-technique, just as Beary had taught her. As she finishing the last movement she asked. Did you see that? It is the complete dance. If you must continue, you just begin again from the first movement. Now you try. Then we will add the weapons.

Erin looked at the rice paper. Maryam’s steps were so light they didn’t even leave a mark on the paper. Erin did the dance. She knew she had done it correctly, but she also knew she had torn the paper.

Maryam said, Not too bad. Your form was good, but you dropped your right back paw on the third throw. That tore the paper. It took me weeks to get that good.

Erin hugged her. Maryam, you are so patient with me.

Maryam sat her down. Erin, you push yourself so hard, so, does Sho-Sho. Please, my love, don’t push yourself so hard. I will always protect you, my Erin.

Erin looked at her. But, Maryam, it is my duty to protect you, this planet, and everyone else.

Maryam answered sweetly, My love, you are never alone. My weapons are always at your call. You know I never miss. So, do not carry the burden by yourself.

Andreios handed some things to Nikolaos. Nikolaos, these are for you. I think they are the best I have ever made. This blaster, it is only good for five shots. I have improved the power pack. I still can’t get it the way I want it. Still, in a pinch, it could help, and it is small. This is for Ghost Wind.

Nikolaos looked at the light-weight throwing knives and the vest. The vest was light-weight, but he could tell it would probably stop just about anything short of a ship’s rail gun. These are amazing, Andreios!

Andreios shrugged. Not really, but I am getting better. The vest should give Ghost Wind some protection.

Ghost Wind grinned. Thank you, my Ando.

Andreios smiled. You’re welcome, my lady.

Niko, I should go see Mother, Ghost Wind said. May I show her my vest?

Nikolaos put it on her. She smiled. Go ahead, my partner, he said.

Andreios laughed. She is rather possessive, isn’t she?

Nikolaos shrugged. She has decided that since you, Maryam, Agathag, and Ice Song are my siblings, you all belong to her also.

Kat and Paulette landed back at the airfield. They turned in the trainer. A Lieutenant Farris walked up. Lieutenant Maritinus and Archangel, who gave you permission to use one of our trainers for a joy-ride?

Kat recognized the tall Polarian. Lieutenant, if you have a problem, you can take it up with my CAG, who cleared it with your CAG.

Farris started to grab her. That was when a tall Maxmimus Dragoon grabbed his paw. Lieutenant, I am Major Hanover, of the first Dragoons. If you touch our lady Maritinus, I will break your arm.

About that time, two large dragons appeared. The captain looked at the sergeant. Sergeant Firebrand, please drive our ladies home. We will send a transport for you.

The red-and-green dragon saluted. Yes, Captain Death’s Song. My ladies, if you will show me to your transport, Corporal Franz and I will take you home.

Kat smirked. Thank you, Sergeant. Captain, and Major, thank you also.

The major saluted. Not at all, Your Highness. It is our pleasure.

Kat and Paulette walked to the transport. The corporal got in as did the sergeant. My ladies, we will get you home safe. We promise.

Kat nodded. Thank you, Sergeant. He was from my old tribe.

We know, my lady. The facts of life are being explained to him as we speak, the sergeant said.

The captain smiled a dragon’s smile. "Lieutenant Farris, let me explain this to you. Then you can explain it to your clan. Lady Maritinus and Lady Archangel are Valkyrie of the Dragon. They are members of our empresses’ house. If anyone would try and hurt them, she would be displeased. There is not a dragon, Dogon, Canus, or Maxmimus, on this planet that would not risk their life to hunt down the cur that hurt them. Do you understand?"

Lieutenant Farris considered the fiery-cold eyes of the female dragon captain. I understand, and I will relay your message to our council.

The major nodded. Then we are done here. With that, he and the captain turned and walked away.

Lieutenant Farris hadn’t liked the orders from the council. Now he understood why. They had been put on notice. Back off or risk a conflict with creatures they didn’t understand."

A Maxumus space transport displaying the royal seal arrived at Saint Elaina’s. Aleut, Lunara, and about twenty others disembarked. Gen. Flame Heart met them. "Sire and Sirena Maritinus, welcome again to Andreas Prime."

Gen. Flame Heart, it is good to see you. Why are you here? Lunara asked.

The general explained, To escort you to our Lady Kat’s home, of course, my Lady Maritinus. My Dragoons will see to your luggage. If you and your party would like to follow me.

Aleut nodded. Something isn’t right. We are being met with too much security. Angelina is sending a message, and she isn’t being subtle about it either.

Gen. Flame Heart continued, Sire, you, Lady Maritinus, and young David will ride with me. The rest of your party will be split among those five transports. Your luggage will be placed in those two trucks.

Everyone was loaded up, and an armed transport lead out, as the convoy pulled out. Aleut noticed that there were dragons flying cover over the convoy.

Gen. Flame Heart, don’t take this wrong, but who is Angelina trying to send a message to? Aleut asked.

Flame Heart shrugged. "The Seventy Tribes of the Red Circle, were making some noise. Members of your family are part of her family. She wants them to understand where we stand."

Aleut looked at him. I don’t understand.

Flame Heart responded, "Our empress has pledged her life to you, Aleut Maritinus. As such, so has every dragon, Dogon, Canus, and Maxmimus of Andreas Prime.

Lunara grabbed Aleut’s paw, "As we swear our lives, along with the lives of the Red Paw Clan, to her and to all the creatures of Andreas Prime." Lunara said as she kissed Flame Heart. He turned a brighter shade of red.

David just took it all in. With this declaration, his plan might just work. He smiled as he formulated his plan.

Ruth looked at Night Breeze. Are you worried?

"He will not wish to see me. Ghost Wind will not be pleased. I do not wish to be a burden to him. He doesn’t even know I am coming to Andreas Prime or why."

Your father’s, injuries require treatment. Dr. Torrance said that he would prefer Dr. Maxumus take the case. Your mother is going to work for Lady Maritinus or Archangel. You can help also, Ruth said.

What of you? Night Breeze asked.

Andreios is pleased I am coming. He is hinting that he wants me to try and get a job at the Maxumus Castle. Though, I don’t know why. You should have told Nikolaos, that you were coming or have let Andreios tell him, Ruth said.

No! Your dad is going to work for Lady Kat, and you have skills. I don’t have any skills, Night Breeze said.

Ruth frowned. That is not true. I have seen you practice with a bow. Also, the little ones love you.

Night Breeze dropped her head. What good are such skills?

Back on Asador, Ti slowly walked down to the chapel, where Paul and Constance were entombed. He nodded to the two guards as he walked in. He bowed, said a prayer, and then walked into a small alcove. There, he touched a hidden lever. He walked into a small room. He then opened a hidden slot in the stone wall and looked at the Key of Epic.

Star Firerena appeared next to him. What troubles you, my child?

Ti exhaled. "I wondered if you would come. Why did they give this to me? I destroyed the Gate of Ages."

Star Firerena explained, Because my two princes might have need of it. Keep its existence secret, except from your brother.

He is my cousin, my lady, Ti said.

Star Firerena shrugged. Since you are one of my children, as is he, I will call you brothers.

Ti grinned. Okay, why am I arguing with a spirit dragon? Yes, Grandmother.

Star Firerena kissed him. Good, Tiberius. You understand. Now, put it away and go be with your wife. Do not fear. We will protect your and Beary’s families.

Drop Wing appeared next to her after Ti left. Wouldn’t it have been better to destroy it rather than hide it here?!

Star Firerena regarded him. It was not our call.

Drop Wing shook his head. "You and he pulled me out of Paradise for this. I don’t think either of you know what is going on!"

Star Firerena waved a talon in the air. You are bound to me. Do not forget. I care not if they are the Princes of Destiny, or if it is the twins, or if they never appear. They are my loves as are Kat and Paulette. You will serve them.

Drop Wing sighed. Even as a spirit, you are impossible. Yet, that is why I have always loved you.

Star Firerena smirked. Come, we need to check on the rest.

Paulette was having tea with Kat in the garden. Augustinus walked over. Lady Paulette, good afternoon. How are you?

I am well, Uncle Augustinus. Please drop the lady. Kat will tell you I am no lady, Paulette said with an impish grin.

He kissed her. But to me, you will always be a lady. Kat, your father-and mother-in-law are ten STU out. Your mother is pinging off the walls. Flow is ready to do her harm.

Kat laughed. I’ll go rescue her from Flow. Where is Ice Shine?

Augustinus shrugged. Preparing the others’ rooms, work assignments, and schedules with Fire.

I’ll be back. Kat went and returned with her mother, another cup of tea, and set her down.

Mother, it is just Aleut and Lunara. They are family. The others are bears who are going to be working here or at Paulette’s with Eloisa. So, please calm down. Kat said soothingly.

I don’t want to embarrass you! Star Glow exclaimed.

Kat laughed. Don’t worry, Ben or my son-in-law will do that for you. I am sure.

Yes, Gabriel, will probably say something inappropriate. I am sure. Father has been a bad influence. Paulette laughed.

Star Glow was amazed. These two could laugh so happily, I had never known such happiness in my marriage, only abuse, humiliation, and fear. I knew in my heart that Ben and Gabriel are good. I still could not shake the ghost of my husband.

Gabriel walked in. Who is a bad influence? He kissed his wife passionately and then her belly.

Ben followed him in. Get a room.

Gabriel laughed. You got one we can borrow?

Kat just shook her head. See? I told you. Behave yourselves. We have company four STU out.

Ben looked around. I guess we got back in time.
