About this ebook

When the fig tree buds and puts forth new leaves, we know summer is near. How do we know when Christs coming and His Kingdom are near? Israel is described as the fig tree, or the clock, that we are to examine to know the time. For almost 2000 years, the fig tree, Israel, was quiet and dormant. Throughout the Church age, from A.D. 70, when General Titus of the Roman Empire destroyed the Temple in Jerusalem, until Hitler and World War II, very little happened to the Jewish people.

The new leaves began to appear when six million Jews were killed in World War II. New leaves appeared in 1948 when they became a nation, and again, when their barren wasteland became like a garden. More new leaves appeared when they became a great army. In 1989, the Berlin Wall was torn down and millions were freed from the Soviet Union. For almost 2000 years, nothing seemed to be happening.

Now what is left for Israel, and how fast will it happen? We are told in Daniel 9:24, they will be saved as a nation in the seventieth week of Daniel. What do we see happening to Israel on the way to Armageddon?

After almost 2000 years of silence, the fig tree started to bloom, beginning with World War II. It is amazing how much has happened since then. How soon will the remaining signs occur, and how quick will the coming of Christs Kingdom be?

    Introduction

Today I feel closer to God than I have ever felt. I look forward to each day because I know this closeness to God will continue to increase until He finally takes me home to be with Him. I have spent the last several years in extensive study of the Bible, particularly in the area of prophecy, and a great need has arisen within me to share my thoughts with others.

I truly believe the Bible is the inspired word of God. Many topics in the Bible are easily understood or interpreted. However in the case of prophecy, a clear-cut picture cannot always be drawn. Biblical scholars have various opinions of what will occur before and during the tribulation period. What I want to share with you covers these two time elements.

I think it is very important for us to have an understanding of what God has planned for humanity and the world and what Satan is trying to do all the way up to Armageddon to prevent God’s plan from happening. If we can understand these two things, this prophecy will become clearer. As we look at what God’s word is telling us, it is my prayer that the Holy Spirit will be our teacher and bring us a clear understanding of what He would have us know.

    Christ’s Mission Versus Satan’s Mission

    Christ’s Mission

Beginning in Genesis 3:15, where we see the first promise of the Messiah, we know that God has a plan to restore fallen man and a sin-ridden world. After Adam had sold out to Satan, the mission of Jesus Christ is to buy everything back, and He will present it to the Father in a perfect state. The perfectly restored man will be the born-again Christian, who, after the rapture, will be transformed to be like Christ. At His second coming, Christ will save the entire Jewish nation. We are told in Romans 11:26, that all Israel shall be saved.

The Bible tells us all the things that would happen to Israel when they meet Christ at their conversion. Daniel 9:24 (KJV), says

Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city to finish the transgression, and make an end to sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.

In the seventieth week of Daniel, Israel, the entire nation will recognize Jesus as Messiah. If you think it were amazing to read of Paul’s conversion on the road to Damascus, just try to imagine a conversion similar to Paul’s happening to the entire nation, Israel. At that time, they will look upon Him, whom they pierced, and be converted in a day (Zechariah 3:9, 12:10–11). Jesus also tells us that He will build His church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it. Jesus promises to come back at Armageddon with the church and stop the world from destroying the Jewish people, the nation of Israel. We are also told in the scripture that, at Christ’s second coming, the church and a restored Israel will rule and reign with Christ for a thousand years.

At the end of this thousand years—or what is referred to as the millennial reign—there will be no more death, which we are told is the last enemy. At that time, Christ will present everything, including man, back to the Father in perfect condition. If Satan could destroy the church or the Jewish people, then Christ’s mission could not be achieved.

Let’s look at the scripture to examine more closely the order of the resurrection. 1 Corinthians 15:20–21 (KJV) says, But now is Christ risen from the dead and become the first fruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection from the dead.

Jesus is alive. He is the first of a perfect, sinless race of people, and He promises to change us to be like Him at His appearance. 1 Corinthians 15:22 (KJV) reads, For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. Everyone is enslaved to Adam’s sinful nature, which we have inherited from Adam. The penalty for sin is death, a spiritual separation from God. Christ has bought us out of slavery of the old Adam nature and promised to restore us completely perfect to the Father.

1 Corinthians 15:23–24 (KJV) says, But every man in his own order: Christ the first fruits; afterward they that are Christ’s at His coming. Then cometh the end, when He shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father, when He shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.

Then we are told in 1 Corinthians 15:26, 28 (KJV), The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death … And when all things shall be subdued unto Him, then shall the Son also Himself be subject unto Him that put all things under Him, that God may be all in all. When the last enemy, death, is destroyed, Christ will present sinless man and a perfect world to the Father.

    Satan’s Mission

Satan would like to destroy the church, but he has a huge problem. Jesus loves the church and was so concerned about it that, when He left to go to be with the Father, He sent the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. Every believer who repents and accepts Christ as Lord and Savior has the indwelling and protection of the Holy Spirit. Jesus tells us that no one can pluck us out of His hand. Satan will never be able to destroy the church.

Jesus says in John 3:3, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Why is this verse so very important?
