About this ebook

Gurmeher, a talented and lively young girl truly was a free spirited child with the deep-set eyes of a wolf, soul of an owl and winged spirit of a Garuda bird. The clear sky was her domain.

She chose to see beyond that which was shown to her by society. She knew she was never cut from the same loincloth as the rest of the comrades and never desired to be the same. She was destined to BE and DO something Extraordinary with her life. She wanted to be her own unique gemstone.

She beat many odds physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually through her exponential journey of REBRANDING, by being her own artisan. Join her as she shares her escapades and the realizations she learnt on the importance of self-actualization, the power of prayer and manifestation as well as the 5Ps she held on tight through this learning phase. She pruned through wealth of self-improvement information and created her own recipe of abundant happiness with techniques and a mental attitude that resonated with her.

Her take-home message is;

Ones definition of oneself evolves as one embraces the concept of being a student of life. It sheds the hard shell called ego and embraces serendipity.

    Preface

My creative instincts were on a roll from the day the seed of inspiration germinated within me to share this story. It conceptualized from deep thoughts, soul-searching, and a wish to see the young talent of the present grow empowered to be their own leaders, encapsulating their dreams within their fists and manifesting them at large.

No longer did I wish to see another doe-eyed, talented, and creative individual drown in the magnanimous need to be part of the rat race simply for materialistic security reasons.

I wish to see every individual stand tall and embody his or her dreams, in order to serve his or her highest good.

Words formed effortlessly, sentences constructed themselves, and thought matter produced structure and flow. It is a story shared through the eyes of a talented and lively young girl named Gurmeher, who beat many odds physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually through her exponential journey called life because she chose to.

I choose to share this story now rather than fifteen years down the road because I believe that age and gruelling experience are not the cardinal benchmarks for purpose and mission awareness, creation and ultimate success. It can happen at any time one chooses for it to happen. It is never too late to rebrand ourselves. We are born as beings with infinite resources within. We are simply unaware of it because of social conditioning.

I wish for this to be a thought-provoking story that will jolt the creativity lying dormant within every individual, awaiting resuscitation.

A Personal Dedication to the talent of the Present

‘Be the Dandelions that stand out amongst the thorns of society’. Its perfectly all right to not want to be part of the norm, in fact you shouldn’t! Empower yourselves to know that the world is your oyster and not a rat race to the finish line. You are the creator of your own destiny and make it your daily affirmation to be THE exception to A general rule.

Most of all never apologize for or devalue that which you hold so passionately.

PASSION. PRUDENCE. PERSEVERANCE. PATIENCE. POSITIVISM - with a daily dose of Ancora Imparo. Hakuna Mattata and Carpe Diem is all you need to LOVE. LAUGH. LIVE Abundantly!

    A special thank you

    To my parents,

Dr. Hardip Kaur Dhillon and Prof. Dr. Harbindar Jeet Singh for always guiding, accepting, and inspiring your little exceptional Jewel to strive and rise beyond the norm; to be her own leader; to be her own ally; to stay grounded; to be thankful for everything that came her way with a smile and most of all to be humble and respect everyone as an equal.

Your spirited outlook on life unconsciously became a beacon of light in my journey towards liberation. Without you two stellar pillars, my life would have been an aimless journey within the narrow box of materialism.

    A Magnanimous Question

We are inquisitive thinkers at birth. Why do we then deprive ourselves of such enriched creativity and decay as gloomy muggers till the time of death?

    Chapter 1

    Gurmeher

    15215.png

    Credo

I am all that I am.

Gurmeher was very much like her name. Gur meant sage, and meher meant benevolent. Those qualities were in her character. She was wise beyond her years and yearned to make a difference to humanity.

Gurmeher arrived prematurely one freezing winter night with the grip of a warrior when she held her mother’s finger. As a child, she was a carefree Speedy Gonzales who ran from pillar to post with a huge smile, springy curls, and a heart full of excitement and intrigue. As an explorer from the gentle age of one and a half years, she swelled with zest for life. She was imaginative, receptive, sensitive, and musically inclined, fuelling her love for laughter through song and dance.

Her passions were being creative and experimenting with bright colours. She would take any opportunity she got to bury her nose into her colouring book, much to her parents’ concern. They resorted to hiding the colour pencils so she would finish her boring homework. She was a doe-eyed dreamer who interpreted things with excitement and purity. Never was she one to link it to logic and what was told to her.

Gurmeher thought about these memories and realized that her passion for learning and daring to be an exception to the general rule began when she was of a tender age. It was from there on that she unconsciously embraced her first motto, Ancora Imparo, which to her meant student for life.

She was ridiculed and laughed at in school for being different and a late bloomer academically. However, Gurmeher refused to succumb to pressures of being dubbed a bimbo. She understood that her learning style and capabilities were different from the norm. This was a hard-knocked understanding that she gained alone. She chose to acknowledge and embrace it, infusing creativity into it instead. Such creativity was pronounced in her tertiary qualification combination. Despite her hate for standardized examinations, she chose to conquer it by holding her dandelion high and shine in her own quiet way.

For years, she was repeatedly asked why she was not a lawyer in the conventional way, why she had studied so much, and why she didn’t do what the other law graduates were doing. Condescending remarks by society were aplenty, and she chose to remember two comments vividly as a driving force to give her the chance to soar like an eagle when no one else would.

She recalled one incident as a challenge to her intellect.

While attending a heartfelt bereavement, her tummy rumbled in hunger. She knew she had to eat something despite not feeling like it. She forced herself to take a plate and head to the serving table. Much to her dismay, her least favourite person was present at the serving table. He was known for his arrogance and mindless remarks, she knew she had to get her food in a dash. Unfortunately for her, her lucky stars were asleep at that moment.

So what are you doing these days? he asked.

I am studying law, Gurmeher said with an innocent smile.

His response to that was beyond her imagination. With a good old Malaysian expression, he laughed and said, Fuuuyooo. Law, huh? I thought you were doing some secretarial course!

The smile vanished from Gurmeher’s face. She looked at the adult before her and felt the meanness in his statement. How could one be so cruel? With her shoulders slightly slumped, she walked away with her plate
