Jean H. Bryant had almost always had children around her as she is the eldest of four, mother of three, and now (unless there is something she hasn’t been told about) grandmother of five. After leaving school, she went straight into a large drawing office to begin training as a draftswoman. She loved this work immensely. Later, she married, had a son, and then a girl and boy twins. It was a blissful time. “The thing about your children is that they accept you as you are, don’t ask for qualifications or credit rating, or criticize what you wear (not until the female reaches the age of fifteen, that is, and refuses to meet you outside a certain shop because it is ‘not trendy’ and ‘someone might see her there’). You are their hero, their first and last teacher, and they are yours,” Jean Bryant said. During the “cluck” years, Jean became involved in nursery, playgroup, and community matters and, when the time was right, joined a company as a design draftswoman, and again, they were many very happy years. Now semiretired, the author has many hobbies and delights in the richness of the wonderful theatre world of performing arts as well as a good family get-together at every opportunity. Greatly, she enjoys beating the grandchildren at everything—arm wrestling, swimming races, cartwheels, hand stands, long jump, high jump, swing ball, break dancing, dancing to Michael Jackson, making banana fritters, eating doughnuts, and storytelling.
