As a child I spent hundreds of joyful hours cuddled in my mother’s lap, learning my ABCs, nursery rhymes, poems, and math concepts. “Hidden jewels,” said my mother (she knew I most certainly was one), “need to be found early and polished often or they won’t sparkle.”
Whenever I asked why it was important for me to sparkle, my mother laughed and said, “As a teacher my motto is ‘Hidden in every child is a jeweled treasure just waiting to sparkle.’”
