    ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I started this document originally because of my stepdaughter, Sandy. Sandy is in her 40s, has been married and divorced twice and has three children, high school age and beyond. And she lives a thousand miles away. In a phone call a few months ago, Sandy confessed a belief in Jesus Christ as her personal savior. About a week later she asked her mother and I for a Bible and explained that she was dating an openly Christian young man, who was encouraging her to go to church with him. We sent her one. Then in a subsequent phone call she said she was having some trouble understanding the scriptures and how they all fit together. That is when I started this document. I sent her a partial draft a little later, and she thanked me for it. Since then I have sent her several updates. She let us know she was reading it and that it was making things clearer. I have not talked to her much recently about this document, but I hope it has helped her. Since then I have continued in this effort, because I thought it might be valuable to some others like Sandy, who may have lost their way in knowing and interpreting the messages of the Bible, and are struggling for a better understanding.

I have not sought out any particular source material for the following, except for the Bible itself and my personal memory and understanding from a lifetime of reading the Bible and listening to many teachers of the Word. If I have made some blunders, it is my own fault.

    REASON FOR THIS UPDATE

    This second edition is:

    - to correct grammar and syntax errors in my original document,

    - to add additional information that I felt would help readers to understand and properly interpret the Bible scriptures,

    - to correct or clarify some of my interpretations of what the Bible said or meant

    - and to add-in the Old Testament book of Ecclesiastes that I inadvertently left out of the original publication

Almost all the text and the intent of this document remain the same, including that of clarifying the background and purposes of the various parts of the Judeo/Christian Bible and the justification of its importance and relevance for individuals today and for modern society.

    DISCLAIMER

This document, like my first edition, is in no way intended to replace or substitute for the reading of the Bible itself. This updated document again only touches the surface of the
