You Might Appreciate This - Zach Swirski
PART 1
#1
I loved you because I was lonely
and I thought you were too
but you didn’t need me
the way I needed you.
#2
It’s driving home alone
again
and it’s 2 a.m.
always at 2 a.m.
with no cars on the road
so I can drive at my own pace
slowly with the music
and an eased in melancholy
greeting me at each turn
and everything is ok.
#3
it comes down on me like a thousand punches
the tempest glared in brilliance and fury
the thunder claps
and claps again.
She told me she hated me today and wished I was never born
Oh what a lovely day for a storm.
#4
none of us are actually lonely
we just think we are because of
the clothes we wear
the music we listen to
and the books we read
they tell us we’re lonely and need more
and we listen
#5
I look for you and hope for you
but I can never quite get to you
you were like chasing fog
sometimes you can feel it and see it
but you never really know when you are in it
you only see it at distance
and wish.
#6
Cool descending air
tugs softly against bare backs
kneeling across
feeling queasy
Of what my Father said
don’t ruin your life son
maybe that’s all I can do
It drapes over like a wool pelt
witches only dream
Of this discourse.
#7
slowly going insane
at least Hopefully.
elegant breath
illuminates the trees
right eye twitch
left sink deep
cuts along screen doors
dreaming above all
