Our Roots Run Deep: The Cobby Moore Lineage
()
About this ebook
The information shared in this booklet was gathered through oral histories, written records, family Bibles, ancestry.com, state health records, family reunion booklets, and national census data.
Sources through interviews with family members tell us that Warren Moore (1841) and his parents Dock Moore and Edy Moore, arrived in the United States as slaves sometime around the midnineteenth century. The family initially lived and worked on the Albritton plantation in Pitt County, North Carolina. Warren Moore married Harriet Langley (1844). Cobby Moore (1878), the main patriarchal focus for this project, was one of Warren and Harriet's eighteen children.
The following pages contain sketches of the lives of Cobby Moore, his three wives, and each one of Cobby's eighteen children. These short vignettes describe the general characteristics of each family member and tell the story of a family's place in American society.

DEDICATION
This tribute to my ancestors was truly a labor of love. I would like to dedicate this OUR ROOTS RUN DEEP: The Cobby Moore Lineage book to our ancestors: Cobby, Lena, Sarah, Hilda and all of their children. Together they developed a wonderful protocol for successful living. The foundation of which evolved from a strong faith in God, a belief in the rewards of hard work, the importance of education, a sense of community, and an appreciation of family and friends.
I would also like to dedicate these pages to the pioneers who began the exploration of our family history in the late ‘70s; and organized the first Moore Family Reunion (1980). I will not name them all for fear I might leave someone out. However, I feel I must acknowledge Jerrol Wayne Moore and Vernestine Clemons Paige who did most of the research in those early years.
The information shared in this book was gathered through oral histories, written records, family bibles, ancestry.com, state health records, family Reunion booklets and national census data. On occasion, these sources provided conflicting information (i.e. misspelling of names and varying dates for births and deaths), however all dates presented in this project were researched thoroughly in an effort to validate the content. Additionally, the stories provided in this book were subjective accounts and were told through the eyes, ears and memories of family members, as they recalled past events.
It is my hope that you make this lineage book a part of your process to educate your family about your own family history and share that knowledge with generations to come.
