Foreword
Each of us has a calling to do or to be what the Creator has planned for us in this life. My calling was to enter the field of photographic imaging. It took me a while to get the message, but I eventually turned a hobby into a full time occupation which took me on an incredible visual journey enabling me to capture precious moments in time. These moments became extraordinary destinations that danced with light, form and colour.
As I document my journey and share these places and experiences with you, I trust that you will also be inspired and motivated to carve your own niche in the field of photographic imaging.
Whether we realize it or not, we are all on a journey. If you picture in your mind your goals and dreams, you will set in place a plan to make them become a reality.
Dedication
This book is dedicated to Margaret Watson (my late Grandmother) and Margaret Elizabeth Davies (my late mother) both of whom inspired me with their photography. I’d also like to mention how the late Courtney Milne and Freeman Patterson have also helped me to advance my photographic vision. In addition to assisting in the editing of this book, my wonderful wife, Gertrude King has been an inspiration as my assistant photographer on many occasions.
Testimonials
I have always believed photographers see a dimension of this world that escapes us mere mortals. Thankfully, artists like Bryan Davies allow us into that magical realm.

A favourite word with Bryan, is
visual gems where a glimpse of perfect light glitters through the visual chaos all around. Bryan has made many of these perfect glimpses possible.

Introduction
Since receiving my first camera at the age of twelve, I have made it my life’s work to seek remarkable scenes, capture them on film or digitally, and display them to a wide audience of viewers. I didn’t realize, until later in life, that all of my photographic adventures became expeditions through various locales and experiences. Each part of the journey has led me to extraordinary people, exotic places and remarkable events not previously embraced. Every photography experience became a learning session to help build my skillset and to further my journey along the path. Even the challenges became blessings that I was able to transform into visual gems. If you perceive your photographic design, as a life-long journey, taking you to places you’ve never been, allowing you to learn significant lessons along the way and meeting fascinating people who help guide you to your next adventure, then your image making will begin to draw you into new and exhilarating directions.
How The Journey Began
In 1957, life was much simpler than it is today. There were no Satellite television receivers or cable broadcasting stations. Our TV antenna was attached to the brick chimney on our house. And our primitive Black and White TV could receive only three channels through the air: CBC Toronto, and NBC and CBS from Buffalo, NY. My favourite TV shows were The Twilight Zone, One Step Beyond, Superman and Gunsmoke.
The most elaborate electronic device that I owned in 1957 was my six-transistor radio, which was made in Japan. I was one of the first bicycle riders in our subdivision to make a foam lined box for the back carrier to fit my transistor radio. I could then ride my bike and listen to 1050 CHUM with an earphone plugged into the radio.
It was a time when there were no personal computers, Internet, fax machines, tablets, cell phones or digital cameras. Digital Photography was still about 40 years away from taking the world by storm.
Both my mother and grandmother had box cameras for taking family pictures. This is the photography that I had grown up with, a 100 year old
