Religious but Lost - Sandra Larry

    Getting out of step

What happens when a person gets out of step with God? I’m writing about in step with him and what is required. And what you can expect and what to do in difficult times. The question is what happens when you choose to walk without him or walking out of step sinking and ignoring him. Doing it your own way in the book of first Samuel here is a perfect example of a young man who had it altogether. It couldn’t have not been any better for him. He had everything going for himself but he chose to walk not in step with God’s plan. I want to relate to the story about the life of Saul and apply it to your life and mine because it’s so ethical now in these days and times. The scriptures says that Samuel the prophet said God told him to go to Jessie house and choose one of his sons to take Saul place because he rejected Saul. So he goes to his house and he says they had this sort of big dinner. Samuel says I want you to bring out all of your sons. Let me meet them so, he brings them all in. The first one that came in is a tall handsome guy and so he says this must be the one.

God said no he’s not the one I want so, he goes through all of the brothers finally. And he says well Jessie is this all of them, he says sort of I have a younger one who’s out there in the sheep field he has a bunch of sheep out there. Samuel tell Jessie to call his son who name is David. He calls David in and then God says that’s the one. Then he appoints David but David was still shoveling sheep stuff. David then goes among his brothers and it’s this big warfare going on, Philistines on one side of the valley and the Israelites on the other side. Here’s Saul who’s scared to death. Being the king and commander of the soldiers which they all were afraid. So young David the Sheppard boy walks in and the first thing that happens is his brothers says what are you doing here? Why don’t you go back to the few sheep which was sort of a cutting way to say. Get out of their way go back home. David says to Saul I’ll take the challenge so he orders him to put an armor suit on. He said I don’t need an armor suit on, he knew his armor was God and his weapon was the sling but it was the spirit of God in that stone.

You’re thinking the spirit of God is a stone no, that’s not what I meant that it was going to hit its target. So he slay Goliath which made him a big hero. Then so Saul wanted David to be his servant. He then goes out fight for Saul plays the harp and so forth. But here’s a big mistake when he came back from fighting for Saul the women started praising David more than Saul by saying, Saul killed thousands of soldiers but David killed ten thousand soldiers. Then Saul became very angry for this displeased him. It came about on the next day that a evil spirit came from God upon Saul and raved unto the midst of the house. As you all know David was playing his harp and a spear was in Saul hand, he herald the spear toward David to pin him to the wall he miss. Let me say the spears in those days were very heavy long and sharp a man that can throw one can hit a person and it will go right through you. He intended to kill David, noticed what the scriptures says that a evil spirit from God, now does that mean God sent a evil spirit to kill David. No! What that really means that God allowed what was going on inside him, his jealousy. When you have pride, disobediences and guilt there’s jealousy. Here’s this young Sheppard boy coming on the scene and then he tries to kill him but misses. Then he sends him out to war so it wouldn’t look as though if he dies it wouldn’t be because of him. Now Saul doesn’t want the guilt on himself so this is why he sent him to war so that the Philistines would kill him. The jealousy that Saul now has for

David is eating him alive inside. Your marriage, business and friendship can be wreck because of jealousy. Some of the little things can be wreck because of jealousy. Saul sent a message to David house which was a group of people to kill him. He tried to kill him twice once with a spear and then by sending him to war. It didn’t work but you see Saul son Jonathan and David had a awesome relationship, a strong friendship with each other. Jonathan separate himself from his father after, he had seen and heard all the things that he was trying to do to his best friend David. The jealousy that Saul had ate him up inside, he started to reject the living God, it lead him into a path of destruction. He wouldn’t listen he lost everything, he then kill his own son. In the end Saul was beheaded by the Philistines.

How to deal with temptation wisely

When you face temptation what is your first response ? Is it immediately rationalize what you know you’re about to yield or is it to resist in the power of the Holy Spirit. One of the most important things we have to learn to deal with is temptation. The simple reason is its always going to be with us. So what I want to write about is how to deal with temptation. I want to reveal that in Corinthian chapter ten in verse thirteen which has a lot of truth in it. Read and listen to what the Lord saying in this awesome promise, no temptation has over taken you but, such is common to man and God is faithful who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you’re able to do.

But with temptation would provide the way of escape. Also you will be able to endure it. Now what he’s saying is simply this all the temptations that we face is common to everybody, then he says God is faithful who will not allow you to be tempted. Beyond what God knows you can bare. That’s when you trust him, rely upon him to enable you to bare it. A person that’s not Christian wouldn’t be able to bare temptation. You’re on your own doing your own thing. You will live your life apart from God. Without God therefore the only thing you got to deal with temptation when you have faith in God he will not let temptation over power you. He’ll make a way of escape so that you may be able to endure it. He did not say he will remove it sometimes and sometimes he won’t. With that in mind think about how do you deal with temptation wisely.

The first thing is in order to deal with it wisely, we must understand some very simple things but, very important things about temptation. What is temptation? Temptation really is an enticement of our natural God given desires, to take them beyond God limits for example, let’s take the desire to eat there’s nothing wrong with food and nothing wrong with eating it except God knows that there is a limitation. What we should put in are body no matter what it maybe. Likewise there are sexual limitations there’s nothing wrong with sex but in itself as long as it’s practice within the confines of the will. Planning a purpose of God that temptation is really taken in those God given desires and taking them beyond God boundaries. Once we do that we not only sin against God but sin against ourselves into debt. Sometimes you don’t realize you’re making it easy to get in debt sexually temptation and all the rest.

Like in our own human flesh that we have. The sense that God gave us there falling senses. When we trust the Lord Jesus Christ as our savior we have the holy spirit to end well to enable us and yet in spite of that, we still have our natural sense about ourselves. Then we have the devil to deal with, you recall in the Garden of Eden the first temptation there he was in the wilderness with the Lord Jesus Christ himself. And in the wilderness he is tempt by the devil. It’s enticement of natural God given desires and not only that but, these temptations work on that which are inside of us. Satan is involved and our flesh is involved, the world is involved yet when we look at the source of it it’s very simple. Yet, very simple on the one hand and complicated on the other. What’s the source of it, we said the flesh is the source of it and the world system is the source of it. The devil is the source of it so, when we think about the alternate real problem we have to deal with it. This is on the inside and somebody says, Well I wouldn’t be tempted if God have not done it. So when we read James chapter one we began to understand the source of it.

What’s the source of our temptation? It’s read in the book of James that states like this, Let no one say when he is tempted, I am being tempted by God, for God cannot be tempted by evil and he himself does not tempt anyone. No one can tempt God to do something evil. God cannot be accused of tempting any of us. This source of it is within ourselves, understand that God says, sense it’s not of him it’s from each and every one of us. If he or she is carried away and enticed by his or her own lust. That is we have to deal with our own natural feelings. Those things about us that which is inside of us the way we think, feel and handle ourselves. It’s very simple he said it’s enticement that God given desires. That take from beyond God boundaries and it comes from within we have to deal with it. What is the very nature of temptation itself, this is all about you noticing a scripture that says, it’s common to all men there’s no such thing as being accepted by temptation.

Every single one of us has to face different types of temptation in our daily life. Week after week, month after month, year after year! Now the things that tempt you may change in your life. Some of us could say we’ve never been and never will be because it’s absolutely no attraction. Whatsoever but on the other hand those same things may tempt other people. And absolutely bring them to destruction we all have those things that tempt us. We all have those that which is true and untrue. Always trying to deceive us so when you think about how it’s build the nature of temptation it’s built upon fantasy. Now fantasy is simply this it’s the composite to imaging something we want. It’s about something without putting anything into action.

So fantasizing about something having this possessing feeling and action. That’s a dangerous thing cause the beginning of the chain always is a sense of deception and, fantasizing doesn’t satisfy anything. It’s the meditation of the mind upon some act which is possession and yet not having it. It’s not reality yet that’s exactly what people do. To enjoy something that’s beyond those God given boundaries. It’s always leads to trouble it’s not escapable no matter where you go and no matter what you do. You can’t escape temptation, in understanding temptation it becomes difference like temptation and trails. We said enticement is to do evil, to commit evil is some fashion and
