Waldir Gomes
Waldir Gomes is Brazilian and was born in Rio de Janeiro. He worked as a journalist, teacher, and writer. He’s now retired and living in the United States. He is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Letters, member and founder of the Academy of Letters of Nova Trento, Santa Catarina, Brazil, Academy of Letter of Celso Ramos, Santa Catarina, Brazil, President and founder of Academy of Letters of Canelinha, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Member of the group of poets and writers Rising Sun of Canelinha and member of the Association of Writers of Municipalities of the Region of Florianopolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil. He has written and published in the “O Estado” newspaper from Elorianopolis, SC, Brazil. “Journal do Povo” Florianopolis, SC, Brazil, “Jornal o Globo” Rio de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil, Magazine “a madrugada,” also published in “Brazilian Culture Club of Detroit.” He also contributed to the Anthology of poems contemporaries 32nd volume - 1st edition, January 2007, a collection “encontros da primavera” in 2007. Waldir Gomes also worked for the newspaper, “Vozes de Canelinha,” to a communication company of Santa Catarina called “Dicesc;” he worked as an English for “Anglo Americano English School of Rio de Janeiro,” “Thames” language schools in Florianopolis, “Wizard” language courses in Brusque-Santa Catarina, Brazil, University of Detroit Mercy and Berlitz Language Center and Bingham Farms. Waldir Gomes also founded drama school at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, in 1975, at the time, with the pseudonym Waldir Moritz, he directed the play “O amante de uma mulher,” a play of Odaleia de Queiroz Cunha. The book “Poemas e Imagens em Forma de Verdades” is a translation of his fi rst book, published in Portuguese, in 2007. It is the result of some incredible experiences he had during his travels to fifty-six different countries, while he was working as journalist, making movies and documentaries. His wisdom now can be experienced, felt, and clearly be noticed in his poems. You are going to feel his love for the different cultures, people, images, memories and countries visited, forever immortalized in the lines of what he wrote, now converted into poems
