The Garden Path - MASS
THE BOOK
OF FREEDOM
SENTENCED
Reading from an old story book
This was all my memory took
A man not a stealer not a crook
But sentenced forever, just for his looks
Freedom was his only aim
One for which many would gain
His life oh! Yes, was selfishly tamed
And now to spend it all in shame
Now all these years of withering gains
He never stooped to the oppressor’s game
He will live and carry the pain
Until his countrymen’s homeland is reclaimed
Shackled in grief, morning, noon and night
Always bounded by the ever present walls
Across his mind would a curse come a day
That Pretoria’s tops would rot in the clay
Search for your freedom, forget not your rights
That is what he preached day and night
Live like you are undisturbed
And the almighty’s face you’ll see in an enslaved world
Justice, peace, let us all see to it
Remembering always that Jericho was not a myth
Callous now for being seated in his hell

This poem is for you
It is for clarity, variety and coherence
In the step forward to victory
It will ask the question, are you Titanic?
To those who never saw the keels of ships
It will see mothers wiping tears of joy from their eyes
It will see children smile as never before
It sees no more burning of fat for the conversion of energy
And it will see a change in humanity
From the walls of China to the children of Africa
And from the heat of Mexico, to the tribes of Jamaica.
In any case the many hatred of this world
Is caused by the many passions of love
And the eager desire to have
But let us see the day
When we will see our brothers’ blood beneath the skin
And let it stay their as a hidden treasure
Then the pilgrims of brotherhood,
Peace and love will stand alive in us.
There is no need to wonder and question
The many things we can achieve
But rather to question the dedication for those needs
And as we rise above the state of questioning
We will find the cause of all our needs
Then we will see that
There is a cause for answer in each mans needs
Just like how we have never found
The dedication and the cause
To feed the hungered people of this world
But we have found the dedication and the cause
To fill our own satisfaction
Now its time to look at the status of our brothers
Leave the self for a little while
And see the conditions affecting them all
That we in the self would not tolerate
And our own will would not desire to have.
Yes if we can see
The will and the passion to create the inverse in mankind
Then we will see
The day when each man’s survival will be his brothers
And the labour for food, peace, love and freedom
Will not cause refuge, destruction, racism, and rationalization
But gives gains and satisfactions beneficial to one and all
Then all men will see the day
When they will not rise above the call for mercy
And will not watch small boats
Spoon their way to delivery on yonder shores
But on our shores, their shores
Our own shores, their own shores
They will climb to the hills of sanctity
And will not contribute to
The extractions of suffering men’s cry from the willing ears
But destroy the enmity of greed
And help each man to build and define his aspirations
Today our roots are well defined
But the tracks to our roots we cannot find
BUT! Come that day when the mother land will say
We have pleasure in you
For the deeds of good
The help you’ve given
Your sense of
