Creating a Housewife - Cornell Richards

    CHAPTER 1

    Clarity

At age fourteen one of the first lessons that were taught to Clayton Jones was that You can’t turn a hoe into a housewife. He was skeptical, but it seemed as though his friend’s irrational views were confirmed by a few controversial hip hop artist during the mid-nineties that sold millions of records making derogatory music towards women. However on the other side of the industry, R&B super groups such as Boyz II Men and Jodeci were making songs and showing young men how to love women. Those were very confusing times as statistics show that a child spends more hourly days outside of the home due to academic and social activities and can easily acclimate to negative influences. A decade and a few years later, the twenty eight year old reflects on the idiotic teachings from several neighborhood friends who shared the same impoverished environment of West Philadelphia and had earned the title of being a role model due to a three to five year age difference, and not because of their personal experiences dealing with promiscuous women. The now wealthy, incredibly handsome, athletically built day trader was the only African American with a Master’s Degree in Finance during his graduating class of Shippensburg University in 2008. He has a wonderful support system with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong and his kid sister Tricia who was eleven.

You’ve often heard the stories of men struggling with alcohol, drug, and even sex addiction. Some of these men have maintained sobriety and have been given a second and third chance by society and have been granted the opportunity to rekindle their troubled marriages or have moved on to new relationships and prosperous careers. Would a woman be granted the same opportunity to salvage her repute after a well-known distasteful lifestyle or would a man’s ego prevent him from seeing her true identity of an exceptional wife? Maybe after assisting with an essential need such as counseling; the man could remain supportive, ignore the backlash from family and friends, form a tight union and move her out of state and provide her with an opportunity to create a new reputation as a respectable woman. Then again, why is she less respectable due to her numerous encounters if we are supposed to be a forgiving culture with equal standards? Maybe a man would be more accepting to marry a licentious woman if she was rich and famous. By way of an example Kim Kardashian has a huge reputation for dating athletes. She is now happily married to Rap Star Kanye West and they have a beautiful daughter. It makes more sense for the average promiscuous woman to be given a chance at true happiness if the odds of an average guy marrying a celebrity is scarce?

It’s 2011 and just about five pm. After a productive day of investments and trading Clayton stares outside the window of his luxurious two bedroom apartment located in center city. He shakes his head in sympathy for the typical nine to fivers attempting to escape the rush hour traffic and then flops on the couch for one last check of his email and teases prospective employers by updating a very impressive resume. His bachelor pad is located on the ninth floor and provides and awesome view of the city. The hardwood floors are spotless, the stainless steel appliances, ceilings fans in each room are nice, but his new can of carpet cleaner has yet to be used on the slightly dingy rugs in both bedrooms. There’s a tremendous amount of convenience as he is within minutes from the hottest restaurants and bars in the city. There’s no need for him to have a car but he kept is brand new Audi 500 in the driveway for special occasions. His Jos. A. Banks suits are refined and signify success. After also graduating from Shippensburg his best friend and roommate Kyle Horne received a job as a Juvenile Probation officer and moved in with his fiancé who also worked in the court house as a records clerk. Kyle’s parents were the original owners of the apartment and offered it to Clayton at a rock bottom price for only eight hundred dollars a months. The Sicilian family was clearly in no need of the extra income as they resided in the suburbs of New York and rented several properties in both cities. Clayton had another good friend, Jeremy Williamson which at first both guys laughed at Clayton’s intensions of trying to settle down with a Jezebel. During a guy’s night out, Jeremy encouraged, Come on Clay, you can have any woman you want, there’s no need for that experiment because it would be a complete waste of time.

However Clayton’s attempts were quite amusing as some of his interest quickly offered their price for entertaining him for a night or often replied, You’ve got the wrong girl buddy get lost. Others were completely shocked by his bluntness, like the gorgeous Panamanian he pursued in a lounge area when specifically mentioning that he was only interested in dating a whore. So if you’re not a whore, I can’t date you. While giving him a stink look, she replied Well sorry to disappoint you sir, but I am not. Clayton figured every guy at some point in his life was helped by a promiscuous woman either financially and sure enough emotionally and sexually. So why couldn’t he give the one promiscuous woman that was out there in dire need of sincere love which he could easily provide? His search went on for months but only led to fatigue and disbelief that not even a whore wanted to settle down with him. That’s a pretty rough blow to a man’s ego. So he decided to give up and just waited on fate. A few days later after taking an hour nap, a book signing was announced for 105.3 WDAS radio host Michael Baisden. What a coincidence that the event was being held at Clayton’s former school, the Community College of Philadelphia.

The book signing would sure have some beautiful successful women in attendance which also dominated the talk show star’s fan base. He contacted Kyle and also notified Jeremy, who was working overtime as a technician for Verizon and lived in the suburbs. The signing was at seven o’clock and the guys planned to meet at the entrance of the school. Clayton quickly showered, chose a white shirt, dark blue casual pants from Old Navy, burgundy Skippy shoes and grabbed his umbrella due to the forecast mentioning a possible thunderstorm. He heads up Broad Street and the C bus arrived and shortens the walking distance. Upon arriving at the entrance, Clayton is immediately rejected by a caramel complexioned woman boasting to her friends about getting a photo and autograph with the radio host. Kyle and Jeremy have arrived along with three dozen more options for Clayton. They’re all waiting patiently in line until Clayton spots a Kerry Washington look alike. The Shonda Rhimes star was known for her aggressive, dominant roles, and was extremely gorgeous. The line was moving quite slow but Clayton was spotted by a faculty member who showed the personal security guards her ID and all three guys strolled pass the hopeful fans. The auditorium was almost full and the guys sat comfortably in the third row. Radio Host, Patty Jackson blessed the audience with her angelic voice and minutes later the Kerry Washington look alike entered with a handful of supporters. After providing the crowd with a few laughs and announcements for upcoming events around the city, Patty finally introduced The Maintenance Man 2 Author.

Mr. Baisden received a welcoming round of applause from the fully capacitated auditorium and jumped right into his presentation by showing a brief clip on the different levels of expectations people have in relationships. During the segment a young man was interviewed and mentioned that he would like to settle down, get married and have children. He received a well anticipated round of applause from the audience. Another young man was interviewed and mentioned that he was not ready to settle down and that he wanted to date as many women as possible. The audience began booing. Afterwards the host asked all of the single women to stand up which Clayton’s interest was also amongst the half-filled room of bachelorettes. Why does the first gentleman receive a round of applause and the second gentleman gets booed? Honesty is honesty, and should be well received because your time isn’t wasted. The two hour event was a success and the groupies rushed the exit. Clayton managed to get a photo with the star along with his co- host George Willborn. Kyle is flirting but for the most part was well reserved, Jeremy is busy making a few new friends and Clayton spots his interest making a quick exit with an assuming girlfriend. He says goodbye to the guys and they all make plans to hang out again soon. A hard drizzle arrives and Clayton approaches both women. He received a weird vibe from his original target and within seconds makes a switch and offers his umbrella to the other woman who is less attractive and a few years older, but she declines. His original pursuant aggressively asked So why didn’t you offer the umbrella to me? His usual confidence was halted but quickly gathered, and introduced himself as an alumni as she replied that her name was Tara. While escorting her back to her car, she added him to her new contacts and promised to give him a call sometime during the week. The thunderstorm was now in full effect and Clayton hurried home on the subway. Tara is gorgeous and about the same height as Clayton, but she has a really awkward disposition. Maybe it was because she was rushing to get out of the rain.

Actually, Tara Wright is a ubiquitous trickster and complete whore of the best kind. She doesn’t stand on the corner, wearing a short skirt and three tons of make-up. The thirty year old resides on the borderline of University City and has a ten year old son named Terrell. She actually has a legitimate job with Glass Borough Corporation as a book keeper located in the city. It’s a position she received after having an affair with the good looking fifty year old Executive Director, Marty Hanson. His wife was bed written and eventually died from cancer. Tara simply uses her neck braking figure and meets successful, desperate businessmen in the finest restaurants and lounges and charges them for sex. Her main clients are typically lawyers, doctors and a few athletes from the Philadelphia Eagles and 76ers. At the tender age of eleven, Tara was molested by her uncle, who spent ten years in jail for a previous rape. After being granted parole he came to stay with the family. She never told anyone about the incident because her uncle was a successful business man that owned two laundry mats and provided for her mother and twin baby brothers. At fourteen, she was often truant and ultimately dropped out of school. She was sent to foster care by the courts but would visit her biological mother from time to time who lived in a mental institution. Tara began mingling with drugs and having sex for money at eighteen. She held numerous odd jobs but sex was her primary source of income.

Fortunately she was still able to give birth at age twenty after aborting her first three pregnancies. She never received any help to deal with her psychological issues and struggled to maintain a sound relationship, especially with those in authority. At nineteen, she attempted to see a therapist, but found the treatment to be ineffective and established a huge wall that was engineered by hate and distrust for men, particularly black men. Her son’s father was a construction worker and was already struggling to take care of his previous three children, so Tara was forced to be a single mother. Her grandmother who she now lived with had died and left her the house. A few years prior in 2007, Tara met an Italian Tax Prepare by the name of Vincent Thomas. After consulting with her vagina, Vincent hired her as his assistant. He taught her how to catch every unthinkable item and claim it as a return. She was a fast learner and became so good that she could purposely postpone the time frame for the customer’s taxes and charge them more money for a quicker return. Their rendition of Bonnie & Clyde had ended as the two was arrested and charged with numerous counts of identity theft. Since it was Tara’s first offense she pleaded guilty for a lesser sentence of nine months in prison and a five thousand dollar fine, which was a small percentage compared to the huge sum of over fifty thousand, that her and Vincent had stolen during a two year span of scheming and scamming tax payers hard earn money. For Vincent, it was his third strike so he now has plenty of time to count the lunch trays for the inmates in an upstate facility. Tara returned home in mid-2008 to a significant amount of unrecovered money, got her son out of foster care, and bought a new Hyundai Sonata. She carried herself well, she spoke well, and a bit classier than her two notorious high school friends Simone and Jessica, who she reunites with after all three of them dropped out of Simon Gratz High school in North Philadelphia. The two worked as hair dressers in a local neighborhood salon but would often solicit sex for money.

Back to 2011, about a week had passed and it’s a dragging Friday afternoon. Tara is at work and finally sends Clayton a text message. He replied that he recalled meeting her and extends a date for later on that night. She asked for a rain check and told him that she had to visit her mother in a mental institution. For the past few days she has been refusing to eat and take her medicine. Clayton understands but is a bit concerned that she would share such news with a stranger. After a brief exchange of messaging they agreed to see each other soon but gave no exact date. Tara had been with the company for two years, basically since leaving prison and was utilizing her skills to provide herself with a quarterly bonus and extra holiday pay from some client’s accounts. Glass Borough’s clients were mainly executives from other corporations, athletes, and small business owners that trusted the company with their children’s college fund and life savings. Five o’clock couldn’t arrive faster and Tara heads straight for a networking event that was held at a gorgeous restaurant known for live entertainment and delicious happy hour specials. The event would be filled with well- known defense attorneys as well as pre-law students looking to make a name for themselves and the temperature was seasonable of eighty degrees in late summer. Upon arrival Tara is wearing a burgundy mini skirt with heels, and a cream top exposing too much cleavage. The intimidated wives latched on to their husbands, leaving Tara with a smirk and made herself comfortable at the corner of the bar and ordered an apple martini.

Surprisingly, Marty her boss is there and she greets him with a hug and rubs her fingers through his salt and peppered hair. Hey handsome, what are you doing here? "Nothing much, just my little way of keeping
