He was living the American dream. He moved from New York to Pennsylvania
and found the love of his life. For fi fty-fi ve years, they built a home fi lled with
love, laughter, and six children. One spring day Frederick took his wife Janey up
to the hospital for her regular cancer treatment. At the time, they didnt know that
would be their last visit.
When Janey died, Freddys loneliness was almost unbearable. Several months later,
while praying near her grave, missing her more, he saw the bluest sky. It reminded
him of her beautiful blue eyes and felt it was a sign. He wrote the poem Sky
Blues and has not stopped writing since. This book is a collection of some of
the love poems he wrote. They appear in the order in which he wrote them. They
represent his real dream . . . to fi nd her in heaven and continue their love story

Frederick J. Mahoney

Frederick J. Mahoney was born in Port Jervis, New York, on October 18, 1928. He was a son of a nurse and a USPS worker. Mahoney and his family moved to Danville, Pennsylvania, to eventually find the girl of his dreams, Frances Jane Benfer (Janey, to him). After four years in the US Navy as a radioman, second class, in the Korean War, Mahoney (Freddy, to her) and Janey married. Janey was a nurse, and Freddy worked in a pharmaceutical lab and was Danville’s mayor and a town barber. Fifty-five years, six children, and many grandchildren later, Freddy would lose his Janey as she lost her brave stand against cancer. That’s when he wrote his first song. More than 2,300 poems and songs later, he’s still writing as he passes the time until he finds her again in heaven.
