Since retirement, Patti Trickett and her husband have pursued their favourite pastime of walking and sightseeing in England and abroad, particularly on the beautiful island of Crete and bought their pretty villa in the foothills of the Psiloritis Mountains. Living in their villa for six months of the year, they walked in the mountains and villages, explored the beautiful gorges and visited many historical sites, as well as helping their Cretan friends to plant and harvest crops and cut grapes on the sunny slopes in the N.W. region. They have enjoyed so many unique experiences the average tourist never sees. This is a happy, light-hearted book which makes you smile!

CODLING’S COVE … . …
The sleepy fishing village of Codling’s Cove was built many years ago on a large jutting rock face, tumbling down to a sparkling blue sea. The tiny fisherman’s cottages perch precariously on its deep ledges with a confusing jumble of narrow footpaths running by the brightly painted front doors. A colourful display of cottage garden flowers tumble over the large wooden tubs surrounding each home; lovingly tended by the fishermen’s wives.
Mrs. Susie Soak was patiently waiting for her husband, Salty Soak to come home from an early morning fishing trip. Susie was a plump jolly woman who loved life and loved her husband even more. Salty was a little thin man by comparison, and walked with a pronounced limp which had occurred from an accident at sea some years ago. However, this didn’t stop him doing the job he loved best – which was taking his little wooden fishing boat out when the tides were favourable and catching fresh fish every day to sell in the market place.
His Father and Grandfather had been fishermen all their lives, so it was natural that Salty would become a fisherman too. When Salty was a little boy, his Grandfather would tell him exciting stories about ‘the olden days’. About fierce pirates who roamed the seas along the coastline and hid their treasure inside the deep caves by the sandy beaches.
‘Granddad’ Salty would say.
‘What is it lad’ came the reply as Salty watched the man he loved and admired so much, carefully cutting the tobacco for his old briar pipe.
‘Tell me a story Granddad’ Salty would eagerly reply.
His Granddad would chuckle and with a twinkle in his pale blue eyes replied, ‘what story do you want Salty?’
‘Tell me EVERYTHING Granddad’.
So the little boy sat forward facing the old man and patiently waited for another exciting story of brave seafaring men or ruthless pirates. Salty would watch his beloved Grandfather slowly filling his pipe with the cut tobacco; he would strike a match and send misty clouds of blue smoke into the air - perfuming the room with a warm sweet smell. Salty knew he had to wait until his Grandfather’s daily ritual had finished before the story began, but he didn’t mind, he loved to watch his Grandfather and would wait for as long as it took for him to begin.
Susie Soak was born and brought up in the pretty inland village of Gobble-de-Gook a short distance away from Codling’s Cove where she first met Salty at a church dance. Salty nervously asked Susie to dance with him, unfortunately Salty had two left feet and constantly trod on poor Susie’s toes until she pleaded with him to get her some lemonade and sit down. It was love at first sight for Salty; he was attracted to Susie’s happy disposition. He courted her for two years and then asked her to become his wife. He took her back home to live in the old family cottage at Codling’s Cove where he was born, along with several other generations of the Soak family before him.
Susie was busy darning a pair of Salty’s woolen socks whilst a pan of stew was simmering on the stove. The little cottage was warm and cosy as the heavy rain beat a steady tattoo on the windowpanes. Susie could hear her husband talking to old Jess his sheepdog as Salty lifted the latch on the
