As a young man, I grew up watching a lot of changes. One was with my parents; they are divorced. I went to high school, meeting different girls that I had in my life, trying to work to keep everything, to keep me from worrying in my life and how I was going to continue with what I needed to continue with my life. I got married at the age of eighteen. I had my first child, and that was the reason I got married. I had to leave college to take care of a son and a wife. Then we separated. I went through changes with my life, and at that point, I decided never to get married again. I still had to take care of my son and try to work, and there were times that I didn’t know what to do. I really didn’t have a father to teach me how to do that. My wife died, and she left my son with her mother to take care of him. After her mother tried to intercept me from seeing my son, I decided to move to Florida. I came to Florida, searching for a job, and met a young lady. Her name was Jenny. After meeting her, I found a job, and we got married a year later. Now we moved in with her mother. She is a church girl, and we decided to move on our own. Then God called me to be a preacher.

36023.pngI WOULD LIKE to dedicate this book to everyone that thinks they cannot get through the obstacles of their lives.
Look up and live because God will help you through everything you will encounter in your lifetime. All you have to do is to trust in God and have faith and courage to keep going.
36028.pngAS I LOOK back over my life, I have overcome some tremendous obstacles from birth all the way through my adult life. Maybe I did not know it then, but God has surely been by my side. Being one of five kids, I was born premature, barely weighing in at four pounds. I was told that I spent the first six months of my life in the incubator; the doctors insisted that I would not live because I was unable to breathe on my own. Thank God, I survived to endure more challenges.
I encountered many hardships as a child. At the age of seven, I was bedridden due to a condition that kept me from walking. However, Richard took me back and forth to the hospital and doctors’ offices, but to no avail; they could not diagnose my condition. This was a terrible strain on my parents because our family had little to no money, and Richard’s insurance did not cover all the hospital and doctors’ bills. They tried to get money from other family members, but that did not work in their favor. Richard, determined to find help for me, did what he knew best: turn to God. He was a very religious man. He told me that he would play some of his favorite gospel records – he loved worship and praise – and he would play records for hours. He was comforted by the knowledge that God heard him pleading for me, for me to get out of that bed and walk, walk around the bedroom, living room, out the front door, around the house, and never look back. He never ceased to have faith, and to God be the glory, I got out of that bed, my legs began to move – I started moving my legs – and I was making steps. Of course, he and Ellie had to teach me how to walk, and eventually, I was on my way. Richard called me his little miracle baby, and from that day, we started developing a beautiful relationship.
As an adolescent, I joined a football team, and one practice, I injured my hand. It had swollen up to about the size of a cantaloupe. Ellie thought I was going to lose my hand; she can be a little dramatic at times. Fortunately, I was able to keep my hand and I was back on the field. Just my luck, this time I broke my leg. Unfortunately, I did not return to the football field. We were in the process of moving to another town. Ellie would come home from work and nurse me back on my feet. While moving into the new house, I injured my foot. It became infected. I was very ill and found myself bedridden again. I made a joke to Richard, asking if he was going to break out the vinyl again. We both laughed. Eventually, I recovered.
Soon after I was back on my feet, we were moving again. Richard worked as a garbage man for the city of Dublin, Michigan, at the time. I did not think much of it at the time, but all the moving became a big strain on the family, and we never recovered from it. By this time, we were old enough to notice that our parents were not happy with each other; however, we knew not to interfere. Some of the houses we lived in were not up to par: they would be missing one or more key elements to be considered move-in ready. Some of the houses had no bathroom; we would have to use the bathroom and bath outside. Others had no working stove, so we had to cook outside. We were partially homeless – that’s what Ellie told Richard anyway. He taught us how to fish ’cause most of the time, he would be broke and would have no money for food or electricity. He taught us how to make a campfire; he was preparing me for the Boy Scout, but I never made it to orientation. We took the pots and used chicken grease to clean and cook the fish while we were by the riverbank. We also caught rabbits, birds, and turtles. I did enjoy the campfire and sleeping in the tents. My brother, not so much; he would complain about the bugs. He wanted to be inside ’cause he was a pretty boy. Ellie was not happy either, and you could see it on her face; she would look at Richard with disgust in her eyes. It got to the point all they did was fight – anything would set her off.
Ellie would not cook for him when he came home. She would pick fights. She would call him trashman, tell him that he’s not a real man, tell him how worthless she thinks he is; she would say she hates him, and she already checked out of their relationship. She was trying
