    INTRODUCTION

Lay hold of my words with all your heart; keep my commands and you will live. Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or swerve from them. Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all that you have, get understanding.

    —Prov. 4:4–7

Fasting: The Key to Spiritual Wisdom, tells of Aage’s Christian experience, which has given him a greater awareness of the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding available in the kingdom of God. Fasting and prayer form the key that has given him spiritual authority to open the door to the library of spiritual wisdom located within the depths of his mind. Attaining this wisdom and authority have been his incentive during the process of spiritual renewal. Over the course of thirty years, Aage and his wife, Janie, have developed and implemented a comprehensive fasting course for those who live with an active expectation for the blessings, gifts, and presence of God.

That your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. However, we speak wisdom among those who are mature, yet not the wisdom of this age, nor of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. But we speak of the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the ages for our glory.

    —1 Cor. 2:5–7

Wisdom is the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgment combined with the power to apply it. We all need this wisdom on our spiritual journey, and it is our responsibility, as Christians, to pursue it. The Scriptures, which are the writings we hold sacred, clearly tell us to take responsibility for our spiritual development. Some people may seek worldly wisdom while others seek financial authority. These things can be fulfilled by developing their natural gifts and talents. But this wisdom that we speak of is about developing our personal character and attaining spiritual authority through the process of becoming more and more like Christ Jesus.

The goal is to strengthen your spirit, soul, and mind through a new, revolutionary way of living a more authentic life in Christ Jesus that involves unlocking the wisdom that is placed within every human being by God, from the beginning of time.

We hope to ignite an interest in developing your character by sharing the story of Aage Hellemose, a Danish immigrant to the United States, who has lived an unusual and Holy Spirit-filled life. Through very little choice of his own, Aage’s rudimentary understanding of the Christian life was transformed into a well-developed way of being in the realm of the spirit. His character development is expressed through an everyday journey through life. His ever-changing perspectives are expressed as parables of the spiritual journey, the wisdom-seekers process, in the tradition of the extended allegories written in the Hebrew Bible (Ezek. 16 and 17).

This handbook is a comprehensive guide to an entire fasting course, recipes included. It also includes a comprehensive study of the five disciplines of fasting. It brings the gifts of the Spirit to the forefront for easy access at any given time for the benefit of the individual and the worldwide Church as a whole. It lays bare the study of how to access the hidden manna of spiritual wisdom.

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give him some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it.

    —Rev. 2:17

Aage’s personal biography, spiritual experiences told through extended allegories, as well as principles and practices, express what he has learned and taught in his more than forty years of Holy-Spirit filled revolutionary Christian living. Each section is designed to express the fasting and prayer experience from a different perspective. It is offered to help you get started in the discipline of fasting, prayer, and wisdom seeking for your revolutionary walk with God.

It isn’t written to tickle the thoughts of the merely curious. It is written for Christians who are interested in showing their obedience through fasting. If you are patient and have a deep hunger for the life in the spirit, life in the realm of God, as Jesus lived it, we encourage you to take steps to unlock the unique spiritual gifts of wisdom and authority that are hidden within you. This unlocking is not only possible but also necessary for being ready for living in the difficult years that lie ahead.

Then I said, I will not make mention of Him, nor speak anymore in His name. But His word was in my heart like a burning fire shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, and I could not.

    —Jer. 20:9

The Holy Spirit has urgently directed Aage to share his experience and forty years of practice that have been building up and must now be shared to unburden his soul. The Earth, as we know it, is about to be hit broadside by natural disasters and a disrupted climate in the coming years, caused by equal measures of human guilt and greed. Human culture will have to adapt, and we want you to be prepared in your spirit and soul so that you can help yourself and others. The general population will need accurate discernment regarding their welfare.

It is important, for this day and time, to be spiritually equipped so that you may have proper wisdom and knowledge to be used for the kingdom of God. This process is accelerated through fasting and prayer. Christ Jesus, redemptive in nature, dwells deep within your inner being and is your strength in times of trouble.

The purifying process of fasting brings a new, more spiritual perspective into view and renews our reliance upon God. It is a discipline, alongside prayer, that focuses the mind on both the physical and spiritual aspects of life that benefit the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and dimensional makeup of our being.

The goal is that you will receive specific gifts by applying the insight written in this handbook, including the following:

    1. Word of knowledge and word of wisdom that are received and attained through fasting and prayer

    2. Faith that is strengthened through life’s obstacles by obedience to God

    3. Spiritual discernment for identifying the truth through life experiences and practical biblical applications (1 John 4:4–6)

    4. Ability to unlock the door to the library of spiritual wisdom stored within you by obtaining a spiritual key

    5. Greater spiritual authority given by grace and worn as an invisible pendant

    6. Shifting perspectives, which comes by living a life of faith through grace as you move between the physical and the spiritual realm

My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

    —Col. 2:2–4

Be encouraged by the extended allegories, dreams, and visions that are played out through both the physical and the spiritual experience. Aage’s natural desire to develop his personal character combined with his spiritual desire to fulfill God’s plan for him started the process for the mysteries of heaven to unfold. We hope this handbook for revolutionary Christian living challenges your mind enough to find insight that can be applied to your life for enhancing your spiritual journey. The more times you read it, the more revelations you will find. Our hope is that these anecdotes of the human condition are transformed from figurative ideas into real experiences that encourage spiritual growth.

The builder of the Church, the God of your spirit, has come with plans to erase the mistakes from eternity that will allow your future to be rewritten. Unlock the door to the library of spiritual wisdom within you as you travel along with Aage (and his team) who dared to forge a better future from the inside out.

    SECTION 1: HISTORICAL BIOGRAPHY

    A DIVINE APPOINTMENT

Then Jesus said to His disciples, If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

    —Matt. 16:24

    The Years of My Youth

The Gestapo only permitted long-distance travel once a year and was fearfully known for arresting Danish citizens, if anyone appeared defiant to its unspoken demands. The oppression in Europe, caused by World War II, was affecting our family relationships during my first of only two visits to see Bedstefar and Bedstemor, my grandparents on my father’s side, before they died. My grandfather was from Bernstorffsminde, and my great grandfather hailed from Hellemose, the village from which my family takes its name.

I remember being three years of age and watching my father listen profoundly for any underground codes being transmitted from London on BBC radio while the rest of us prepared to visit my grandparents. Traveling from Jutland to their home on Fyn, the island east of us, was a hassle in 1943. My family had to change trains three times and then walk a few miles with luggage in tow before we got to their white two-story villa.

The old, unused horse stable they built was once part of an active and vibrant homestead where Far, my father, grew up. I never met Bedstemor on my mother’s side but could clearly imagine her when Mor, my mother, told me that she saw me in a vision seven years before I was born. From what I heard, she knew of me before my parents did.

The relentless Nordic winters made it essential for my ancestors to be efficient, industrious, and resourceful while living in their small towns to keep them sustained with the necessities of life. Their moral fiber was held to high standards and is woven in and through the fabric of my family to this day.

At home in Arhus, Denmark, my family held knowledge and education in high regard. As long as it was productive, respect was earned for the effort. We delighted in each other’s company while playing cards and chatting about everyday issues.

We took a casual approach toward anything spiritual, except on religious holidays when it was expected that we attend the local Lutheran Church. My mother made certain we recited Fader Vor, the Lord’s Prayer, together while tucking me in at night.

Sharing the bedroom upstairs with my much older brother, Kurt, helped me feel safe and secure. He came to bed long after I went to sleep and left for school before I awoke. I’d often lie awake at night waiting for him to come upstairs while listening to the sounds of the tramcars passing by every five minutes, like clockwork, until they lulled me to sleep.

Coal was scarce because of rationing during those days, which caused a lack of heat to our part of the house. Our room temperature would plunge to twenty degrees Fahrenheit during the cold, wet months of winter. Down blankets and hot-water bottles, tucked inside the bottom of our beds, were all we had to stay warm. Rampant fog off the Sea of Kattegat drifted through the cold night air and straight into our bedroom window.

My asthma symptoms flared up during half the year. It gave my parents pause when they
