Author’s Note
Writing Tikey (my first publication) was an extraordinary experience. It was fun and a lot of work. When I held my first copy. I felt successful for the very first time but it only lasted about two days before I began to plan a new book. That’s us humans; never truly satisfied with anything but is the rush of happiness when we reach what we wanted, that drives us.
Thirteen
is a collection of thirteen poems translated to Spanish. I did the translation with help of family and friends. This book is very personal so I needed to be as close to me as possible.
Poetry is a language we all speak but not all practice. With this book I hope to communicate with my readers in this language. Poetry is so strong and beautiful, is like music. What I love most about it, is that it has a different meaning to each reader. My favorite poems are His Best Friend
, Broken Heart
and Oh My Darling
. His Best Friend
, I wrote over three years ago for an ex boyfriend’s best friend. I remember being upset because they were always together and he had no time for me so I did what I like to do; I wrote about it. Broken Heart
is my second favorite because it was the very first poem I read aloud. I’m very shy so this was a huge step for me. Last but least is Oh My Darling
, this poem is for my little sister who is growing up and I had a hard time accepting it.
The number thirteen has a personal value to me. It’s a number that’s always brought good things to my life. For example: my father’s birthday is August thirteen, my younger sister’s birthday is May thirteenth and I graduated from High school June 2013 and there you have it, a special number.
The best part of this book is at the end, my father has been telling me these stories since I was nine so I know them by memory. I promise, you will enjoy the humor and love in each one of these short stories. My sister, Nelly is a very talented young poet, her poems are amazing and it’s my pleasure to share them with you. Working with my sister and father was great. It added a special touch to the book, that just would not have been possible any other way.
Thank you for all your support.
Enjoy
