The book is dedicated to my three special creative thinking co-writers, Kylie, Cole & Kyle Cudney.
The Hibbler family is a family of four, MATT (husband), MEGAN (wife), HUNTER (8) and TYLER (6). They live in a town North of New York City. Matt is an engineer.
HIBBLER HOME—SATURDAY
Boys are running around chasing each other (chaos), Megan is in the kitchen fixing breakfast. Matt enters.
MEGAN (smiling—very happy)
Honey, I was planning to take the boys shopping today for some last minute Holiday gifts before we leave for your sister’s house next weekend.
Matt, paying no attention, getting juice and checking messages.
MEGAN
Matt, did you hear me?
MATT (looks up)
Yeah, what was that?
MEGAN
Do you want to go shopping with us today before the trip?
MATT (as he walks off)
Uh… No, I have my last survival training today.
MEGAN (as she works on breakfast)
What do you mean last
survival training, are you giving that sport up? Thought you liked it?
MATT (more alert)
I just meant last one this year.
Matt exits the kitchen and Megan continues with breakfast.
MEGAN (to boys)
Boys, let’s eat breakfast so that we can go shopping before the trip.
Matt heads to the garage to get his survival items and goes upstairs. Megan watches as he heads up the stairs. Matt returns back down the stairs in a few minutes, however, not to the kitchen, with his wetsuit on under his clothes and a side bag. He heads towards the front door to leave. Megan heads to the front room.
MEGAN
Hey, aren’t you going to tell us good-bye? What time will you be home? Why do you have your wet suit under your clothes?
Matt just wants to leave and responds quickly with a peck on Megan’s cheek.
MATT
Looks funny if I walk out in my wet suit. See you later. Have fun.
Megan just stares as he leaves and waves. She heads back into the house to check on the boys. They are done.
MEGAN
Let’s go boys… . before it gets too busy. Then we can come back and start packing for Aunt Shelly’s.
Boys run off excited and grab their coats. They all head to the vehicle and hop in. They drive to the mall.
MALL—MORNING
They arrive and park. Scene jumps to them (after shopping) carrying various bags.
MEGAN
Ok guys, the only person we have left is Dad. What should we get him?
HUNTER
Mom, there is a sporting goods place. Maybe we can get him something there?
They all look towards the sporting goods store.
MEGAN
Great idea! If nothing else, we can get him a gift card to use since he is so picky on what we buy (they all laugh).
They enter the store and all start looking around at things. Nothing seems to grab their attention since he is so hard to buy for. Tyler then runs towards a bin of items and grabs two.
TYLER
Mom, here is an idea. These are packaged hand warmers. I saw them on TV… . they really work. I think he will really like these!
Megan takes them and looks at them and places in her basket.
HUNTER
Mom, Mom, check this out, an underwater GPS… this is super cool. Can we get this for him too in case he ever gets lost in the water?
Megan looks at it also.
MEGAN
This one’s a little pricy.
HUNTER
Please Mom, it is super cool and he will love it. (big, can’t resist smile at Megan)
MEGAN
Ok, let’s check out these items and head home. Great job on finding Dad
