FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Look, Tony, I’m actually shaking,’ Kate groaned, holding her hands out in front of her. ‘I’m so nervous.’
Tony braked, scanning the heavy traffic ahead.
‘We’re meeting Jess and her parents, that’s all,’ he said. ‘A nice, home-cooked meal – and Jason will be there to break the ice. It’ll be fine.’
‘But it’s not fine, is it?’ Kate clasped her hands together on her lap. ‘I can’t imagine what Jason has told them about my cooking, and I don’t suppose he’s mentioned my phobia of kitchens. He’s such a joker, he never knows when to take things seriously, our son. Why did I agree to make dessert?’
‘Whisk the cream,’ said Tony. ‘Just like I showed you. Then add the raspberries and meringue, and whisk again. You won’t need to go anywhere near the cooker.’
