This book is dedicated to my family and friends, it is a compilation of many verses I have written over the past few years, these words come from my heart on what I have felt when writing them. Also included in the book are contributions from a high school buddy of mine Steve Stone and some poems he remembers his grandfather Wayne Polk also writing. The compilation since it comes from our creative efforts is entitled More Than Words simply because for each of us the meanings behind these narratives are that…

I wrote this about my children, my oldest two I adopted at a very young age (I was 22 and they were 2 and 4), the meaning of Dad rings very true for me in that regard as some folks put doubt into fatherhood if one is not the biological father, there is no doubt in my mind I am their Dad regardless. My other two blessings came thereafter and I was able to witness their birth. I call this poem A Father’s Pride

    A Father’s Pride

    38793.png

A few years ago I met two little joys

One a baby girl, the other a young boy

I fell in love with them along with their Mom

We joined as a family and forged a lifelong bond

A few years later came the births of two more blessings

Our family grew as did my fatherly nesting

I watched you all grew and become adults

Over the years many good times and a few consults :)

My legacy is you and of that I am proud

I love you all dearly, I don’t often say it out loud

So on ordinary occasion of this particular day

I wanted you to know I am honored you came my way

I know I have quirks and we don’t always agree

But also know that there is no prouder poppa than me

Thank you for being wonderful daughters and sons

Of all accomplishments I may have you are my proudest ones

I am not the best father, never has been my claim

But I am most grateful to hear you call me dad as my name!

I wrote this in a down moment as was going thru radiation treatments for a brain tumor. Depression is a real obstacle; luckily I have been able to overcome these moods when they occur.

    I know how it feels

    38798.png

I know how it feels to not be wanted

I know how it feels to be mocked and taunted

I know how it feels to be lonely inside

I know how it feels to be always outside

I know how it feels to be disregarded

I know how it feels to be the one departed

I have spent my life with all this inside

I have spent my life with these feelings I hide

I know how it feels to be dead

This outside shell masks what’s in my head

Can’t be true is what others may say

Don’t really know till they see it my way

But also know doesn’t have to be

Can conquer this all if I just love me

I know how it feels to be loved

Is what brings me back from thoughts not of
