INTRODUCTION
T he Book of Genesis in the Holy Bible tells that God created the heavens and the earth. According to the opinion of many biblical scholars, a lot happened between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2.
It appears the early world was populated by pre-historic creatures such as dinosaurs, and also with man-like beings thought to have actually been animal and not human and did not possess a God consciousness. (Some scientists identify them as prehistoric man
).
At that time in heaven, God had a favored angel named Lucifer, and it was Lucifer’s job to guard the Mercy Seat. This was God’s throne and would eventually be the seat of God on the Ark of the Covenant and in the Tabernacle/Temple. God often appeared to the Israelites on that seat in a cloud of glory.¹ It will be the Bema seat of Judgment in the end of times.
Lucifer was full of unrighteous pride and was not satisfied at just being an employee
. He longed to be God himself and rule the heavens and the earth, and was able to garner the support of a third of heavens angels in his quest to overthrow God.
God, being omniscient, was aware of the mutiny plot and had His Archangel, Michael, force him out of heaven. Lucifer then fell to earth as Satan and the angels that fell with him became his demons. When this happened, it caused the earth to go into a violent upheaval, killing the pre-historical creatures and leaving it without form and void.²
In Genesis 1:2 God began to rebuild the earth. The primitive man-like creatures of the earth had offered no fellowship to God, and his angels left His love unfulfilled, so in the re-creation, God made a being in His own spiritual image that He could fellowship with. This creation was called man
.³
This book is a modern day version of these events of the battle of evil against good. Since it has a strong presence of Satan, the book contains mild language with the strongest words appropriately masked. It contains some adult material and is not suitable for young children. It also contains bible doctrine and references. All non-biblical names and places are fictitious.
THE RISE
CHAPTER 1
W illiam Lyle Prinz waited for his fiancée in the open plaza. Fall was in the air. The leaves of the young trees that had been planted there to soften the static coldness of the concrete and stone were beginning to turn into vibrant and fiery colors.
New York City worked hard at the illusion to change that which was into that which was not. It was not yet a serene city of horticultural beauty. It was still a city that was crowded and noisy. Even here, among the planted trees and architectural splendor, the sounds of the city were an ever-encroaching din. There was the traffic with horns blowing, the siren of an emergency vehicle in the distance, and the rattle of a jack hammer as it too worked to alter that which was.
Lyle looked upward. The new twin towering Trade Center buildings reminded him of two giant rocket ships, poised on their pads and pointing at the heavens, ready to thrust the occupants into a higher destination.
He had seen the space rockets in reality at Cape Canaveral, now called Cape Kennedy. As a scientist and chemist for the National Aeronautical and Space Administration (NASA), he often worked—not just in a laboratory—but in and on the space ships themselves.
That was then. This was now. Unknown to his present employer, Dr. Joseph Aarin Allman, he had been fired from NASA. His goals had been even loftier than the planned 1969 destination to the moon. Had he not been terminated, he could have remained a scientist with NASA—or if his own goals had materialized—been head of the entire program.
Yes, Lyle Prinz’s goals and ambitions had always been to reach for that which was greater and higher. And why not? Had he not rubbed elbows with higher echelon personnel most of his life but was never quite able to reach the pinnacle where they stood? Had it not been instilled in him by his own father to always grab for more? He learned early on after graduating from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) that it often took underhanded and cut-throat methods to achieve more than his fellow man. However, when those methods did not coincide with the policies of NASA and alienated some of the hierarchy, his employment there was terminated.
This time, in his quest to dominate the scientific industry, he would disguise his methods. He would be a wolf in sheep’s clothing
and not let his growl be heard as it had been with NASA.
Why should Dr. Allman be head of Infinity Laboratories, Lyle pondered. He was old. He should have retired long ago. His methods were outmoded and archaic and worst of all was his morality code. The good doctor was a church man, sometimes pushing his moral views onto others, including his co-workers. Lyle Prinz decided that Dr. A’s morality would be his ticket to the top as he would make his ascension under the guise of goodness.
As Lyle waited in the fall morning, he thought of Dr. Allman’s son, Manny (Emmanuel). A real loser, in Lyle’s eyes. Instead of latching onto his father’s legacy and exploiting some of his father’s riches, the fool had gone to a Bible College, then gone to Israel and enrolled in the Hebrew University. Damn Jews! Lyle thought. Most of them were too stupid to know what to do with success when they had it. Lyle hated them all. Hitler had the right idea. He should have remained alive and risen higher, getting rid of all the Jews, niggers, spics, slant eyes and rag-heads so he could have realized his success in setting up his Aryan society. The world would have been a better place.
Now take Lyle’s own son, Levi: He was born out of wedlock and Lyle had no say in naming him. Lyle thought it sounded a bit too Hebe
, but he was proud of his son; a chip off the old block. Unlike the loser Emmanuel, wasting away in Israel, Lyle’s son was in California. He had managed to get himself into the movie industry with the help of his grandfather and was earning millions of dollars. Levi had money, women, a fine home in Beverly Hills and several iconic automobiles, and took advantage of all the pleasures that went with his toys.
That, actually, had been how Lyle met his fiancée, Polly Hart. (It had been Heart
in show biz). Levi had been influential in starting up the new pornographic movie and video industry and Polly had been one of the first porn stars. People had no idea of her past, knowing the present Polly. As well as being a very beautiful woman, she was educated, elegant, and classy. Lyle was happy that she was also an uninhibited companion and he often referred to her as being an angel during the day and a devil in the night
.
Lyle saw her coming toward him in the distance dressed in a stylish woman’s business suit. He knew when he ascended to the most high places, she would be his partner.
Morning,
she spoke with a beautiful smile.
How’s my elegant whore?
he answered. Normally, most women would take offense to being called such a vulgar name, but Polly was okay with it, so long as it was not done in public or around acquaintances.
You’re late,
Lyle continued. Dr. A may let us know about it when we get to the lab.
Let him,
she answered. He won’t toss out two people like us. We’re too valuable to the company.
"Yes, you’re right. Someday we’ll toss him out, the [#@%!] has-been." They laughed.
The two of them made an impressive image as they stepped into the express elevator inside; the beautiful Polly in her stylish attire, and the handsome Lyle, smartly dressed in a very expensive suit.
On the seventy-seventh floor, they approached the double glass doors to the offices of the lab. On them—the CEO, Dr. Allman—had a bible verse etched that read: The Lord will make you plenteous in every work of your hand. Deut. 30:9a
.
What a crock!
Lyle muttered. When he took over, the bible stuff would be the first thing to go and he would replace it with his own logo, a triple-pronged pitchfork. He had already thought it out: The pitchfork would stand for Industry
, just as the sickle and hammer did for Communism. The two outside prongs would stand for science
and knowledge
, Lyle’s idols, and the middle (and longest) prong would stand for himself, a leader in those industries.
The receptionist greeted Lyle and Polly, and told them that Dr. Allman was in the conference room and asked they come in as soon as they arrived.
The meeting room was large. In the center of it was a long, polished wooden table with twelve chairs surrounding it. Some company personnel were already present and seated. The outside wall was interspersed with narrow, ceiling to floor windows, affording an unobstructed view of the city and its monuments to capitalism.
Capitalism, Lyle sneered inwardly. More crock. If he could, he would choose to be a dictator and rule from the position of instilled fear, not with graciousness, as did Dr. Allman. Hang job security
over the heads of the employees and they would kiss up all day to keep their jobs. If a person was afraid, he or she could be controlled much better. Some of the female employees might do even more to please their boss. Lyle had no qualms about being unfaithful to Polly and she probably had no inhibitions in cheating on him. They had even entertained the idea of participating in a swingers
group for a sexual orgy. Polly would have no problem with that, being an ex-porn actress, after all, and nothing was off limits to either of them.
Dr. Allman was a man of sixty-seven with a shock of white hair and a short gray beard. The doctor had a slight buffalo hump
on his shoulders from years of bending over lab tables and test tubes in research. His eyes twinkled and he loved to smile, reminding Lyle a little of the iconic images he had seen depicting Santa Claus.
Joseph Allman began the meeting: "As you know, 1976 was a momentous year for Infinity Labs. It was when we discovered our new chemical that we now call ‘Project Mercy’.⁴ Since last year we have continued to improve and develop it. We also spent the subsequent year in research and tests. At first we used mice and monkeys in our outlying labs and these tests are almost complete. This year and in 1978, we will test it on human beings. This is being approved by the FDA after seeing our experiments and should be ready for full use by 1980.
Lyle, would you like to expound on exactly what Project Mercy does?
Lyle stood up and spoke. "Basically, it is a brain serum. By injecting this chemical into the bloodstream, it seems to improve brain function, and the animals we tested showed definite signs of an increase in intelligence. In one case, a mouse in our study had suffered head trauma and the specimen could barely function at all. Mostly, it just lay listless in the cage and nutrition had to be fed intravenously. After multiple injections with Project Mercy over a period of time, function began to improve. Now the specimen shows remarkable physical improvement as well as in its mental progress. We have seen the intelligence improve so much that we are able to show you the progression of our experiments."
Thank you,
Dr. Allman concluded. Michael, will you demonstrate?
⁵
Michael, a man in his thirties, was not a bona fide scientist. He was a lab technician who carried out the experiments with the animals, plus monitored them and recorded the tests. Michael asked the staff to follow him to the projection room. When all were there and seated, he turned on the projector showing a video of a white mouse lying in its cage with the date and time indicated. The next picture showed the mouse being fed food nutrients through a tube. Another continuing view showed the rodent being injected with the brain serum. The label on the bottle read, Project Mercy
.
As the show progressed with the continuing date/time shown on each view, the mouse became alive
over time and was soon able to function almost normally. The final segments shown were of simple intelligence tests, proving an increase in its mental ability as the time elapsed.
The projector went off and the lights came on. Dr. Allman spoke, Gabriel, what are the future projections?
⁶
Another man stood up, a perpetual smile on his face. He had a moustache that curled up on the ends, apparently held in place by wax.
"We are in the progress of getting human volunteers for injection tests. This, we call ‘Project Adam’.⁷ There will be a cross-section of people that we will experiment on: men, women, young,
