FOREWORD
Take My Advice is about a character who foresees ways to improve people’s lives. This book was made to get to know me through my avatar online. The character, Nix, is the main character. She is gorgeous, and she is a different individual who loves to help in anyway possible. This book is a memoir of Nix’s life and how she thinks the world works. She states her opinion on the topics that she feels the need to address and gives her advice on them. This book started with Nix being a counselor. She grew into becoming a mentor and inspirational speaker. Nix uses logic and incites people to solve their problems, therefore the title, Take My Advice.
She proposes ways for you to learn how to make good choices and to try to do the right thing. I would like to warn you before reading that the content has vulgar language, sexual topics are discussed in this book.
CHAPTER 1
Introduction
As a young girl, Nix was always ambitious. She tried to live life to the fullest. She often roamed in her father’s garden eating tomatoes off the vines. She loved to follow her father everywhere. Her father met her mother at a party, in the early 80’s. It was love at first sight. They started talking, one thing led to another, and then she was born. Her father worked for the Chicago Times newspaper. Her family moved to New York City. She lived with her mother, father, sister and brother. Her mother worked with her father for the New York Times magazine as a secretary. Nix grew up in New York City thinking, Hmm, what a nice neighborhood.
One day, while attending Lewes High School, she saw a motivational speaker by the name of Kim Jones. Miss Jones worked at one of the local health clinics, and spoke to the students about ways to be healthy. Her speech touched Nix’s heart. Nix felt she could do the same. She decided to join the debate team, and she ran for student government president in high school. She spoke out to students who needed advice. Her school normally had speakers come on Fridays, but when one man couldn’t make it, her teachers decided to allow Nix to speak to the students in his place and felt that it would give her practice on speaking to her peers. She spoke to her peers about seizing the day. She wrote a story about a man that had a hard time with staying out of trouble and found a woman to help him out of it. One thing the man learned was seizing the day taking his happiness and allowing himself to be the winner. Nix said, Don’t let your life pass you by. Life is too short to have the what ifs
. After that speech, she became president of Lewis High student body. One morning at school there was, a sign-up sheet for poetry club. She was excited to join and decided to write a poem about her heritage.
Where Do I Come From:
When someone wakes up, they usually don’t think about where they came from, but when I wake up from dreams I do wonder, where did I come from?
I know I came from Africa because I am African American, but I’m yellowish and brown skinned,
