Pathways and Beyond - Adrienne Harrell
Mocking Bird
You saucy, sassy bird,
I see
You sitting in
my tree.
I was looking out
at you
To find you looking in
at me.
Just hung my clothes out by
that tree,
Unaware it was your
nursery.
There was no sign
Do not disturb
I'd no intention to
perturb.
I don't intend to take
your tree-
So kindly leave me
privacy!
Politics
Three black crows
committeeing on a fence-
Raucus caucus
does commence.
Songster
Mock, mock, mockingbird
simply shocking bird!
Other birds had best beware
And haste to copyright
their air.
The Chipmunk
You're
Chitterish, jitterish, skitterish
Run from your dish
of lunch—
Muncherous, cruncherous!
Can you
Hide, jump aside
From my gaze?
It's too dangerous!
Skip, slip away!
Come back another day-
And assize if the prize
Is worthy.
May be risky
To be so frisky!
On The Menu
Don't think the codfish
To be such an odd fish
If he prefers not to roam.
Since he is no stranger
To imminent danger
He'd rather not stray far from home.
He'd as soon host a crayfish
Or other small stray fish
That happens to drop in alone.
Revelation
A sudden breeze whees round my knees,
Flirts with my skirt,
Ripples my shirt
Trick Or Treat
The hibblin', hobblin', bibblin' goblin
comes bobblin' to your door.
The bobblin', hobblin', gibblin' goblin
is lettin' out a roar
The bibblin', bobblin', robblin' goblin
says gimme out somemore!
The frizzlin', sizzlin', drizzlin', mom
says hasn't anymore!
In Memoriam
Have you ever tried teaching
a shark to share?
Or thought it possible
an alligator could care?
There once was one
who thought it could be done.
Fulfilllment
The story says fishes
Can grant you three wishes,
I seriously doubt that it's so.
I open a canful of fish for a panfull
Whose hopes are exceedingly low.
March Wind
Wind, wind,—Oh March wind
Where have you come from -and why again?
Stealing by night with ominous hands
To play odd tunes on my old house.
You hid the sun in a mantle of clouds
And veiled the sky with grey rain.
To yesterday's promise of spring returning
You say, Not yet, not yet.
Winter's still not faraway!
To The Wind
Wind along—come along, let's play
Blowing kites to all heights-
Hurry and scurry and flurry away—
Swirling papers-cutting capers—
Tarry and harrie—be wary my friend!
Of your hat—gone like that!
Hamper and tamper—
It's a game in the
