    Joseph Nordmann

    California impressionist painter Joseph Nordmann has held many titles in his ninety-one years: professor of chemistry, Caribbean bartender, coach’s assistant with the Los Angeles Rams and Toronto Astronauts of football teams, scientist for the film industry, and professional writer. His friends and acquaintances have included everyone from NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Bob Waterfield, and early California colorist painter Paul Conner to the great Russian émigré portrait artist Nicolai Fechin.

    It is no wonder that Joseph Nordmann has been described as: An anomaly. Multi-faceted.     Born in 1922 in Decatur, Illinois, Joseph grew up in Bowling Green, Ohio. From an early age his European parents instilled in their Midwest son a great respect for the arts. As Nordmann remembers: "It was their tradition that I paint, play the violin, and be exposed to a great many other artistic activities. It was part of their culture, and thus my own. My first drawings were of airplanes and rocket ships. I took private art lessons as a child and did
