About this ebook

Mandela: Echoes of Apartheid And Impunity
is a compilation of 26 humanistic and passion-sustained poems on the Late Dr Nelson Mandela, the defunct Apartheid Regime in South Africa and global human rights struggles.
The poems written over a period of 31 years by a Nigerian poet and physician, capture in a compelling chronological sequence, the origin, course, hurts of Apartheid and local and global efforts orchestrated to overcome it. It further portrays the authors vision from the perspectives of mans inhumanity to man, impunity and unnecessary power display by man, white or black, and celebration of such rare virtues as courage, discipline, doggedness and the spirit of forgiveness found in the likes of Mandela, the anti-Apartheid hero, who volunteer to suffer persecutions and abuses in the course of liberating their people.
The book which prophesied the capitulation of Apartheid from the outset, proffers solutions to racism and corruption. It ends up on sanguinary note, pontificating that mans liberation is in his hands though divine intervention is necessary and that human rights activism and liberation struggles do not always disappoint since the likes of Mandela and Gani Fawehinmi of Nigeria, though chronically incarcerated, lived to old age, and even idolized by all before death.

    About The Author

‘‘There is a longing for freedom in every human heart, a longing that arises in response to events and situations that limit us, but not many of us can give vivid expression to this longing as Sam Madugba has done in his Mandela : Echoes Of Apartheid And Impunity, a contemporary treatise in verse which represents a personal odyssey on Nelson Mandela and Apartheid as well as a socio-political critique of unjust structures and practices of our society. His goal is to re-awaken in every one of his readers, if possible by force, the hunger for freedom, justice, responsibility, love and perfection.’’

-Rev Fr Gilbert Alaribe, Ph.D, Seat of Wisdom Major Seminary, Owerri, Nigeria.

In straddling the African socio-political landscape through three stages of maturation, Sam Madugba in his Mandela: Echoes Of Apartheid And Impunity has demonstrated an uncanny ability to maintain a passion-sustained focus so rare in distracting economies and tumbling social conditions that his country, Nigeria offers. This book compels attention. Now and again it reads like a lamentation which it is not. At other times, one gets the impression of a protest, but it is not one; yet sometimes, the poems read like a realistic offering, and they are not. The immediacy of the subject, the range of the linguistic vehicle, and the varied approach to the presentation of the theme invite a closer reading of the poems. Sam Madugba is indeed a poet of exceptional talent.
