George S. Hanna grew up on a farm outside of South Boardman, Michigan. At age twelve, he began writing prose, songs, plays, odes, sonnets, his own philosophies, lyrics, and other literary works. He shares a small portion of his life’s work in his first compilation of poetry. George currently resides in Traverse City, Michigan.

The poetic art is the form of art I use

to express my beliefs any way I choose.

I have a very broad and large belief system -

one based on the Bible, not on humanism.

Through poetry, I try to lead blind souls to the Light,

and to reveal a vision of the future so bright.

Through poetry, I hope to inspire young people

to lift up their thoughts to a higher level;

I hope to challenge every girl and every young man –

with thoughts of inspiration – to reach as high as they can.

There is knowledge given only by the Holy Spirit,

and I want to be one of those who reveals it.

There is great and hidden truth which God has shown

in the Bible, which still remains unknown.

There is truth that has not been taught

by the humanistic school of thought.

These are some of the things I wish to impart

through the words in a book of poetic art.

Do you live in hopes and dreams of the day

when all your sorrow will drift away?

Where will you turn? Where will you go

to find something to end your sorrow?

It seems like your sorrow will never end.

You look like you don’t even have a friend.

Hey listen, you don’t need any more heartbreak.

You’ve had about all of that you can take.

An empty room in your heart is kept for

the happiness which should be yours.

Do you think there will ever be

something to make you happy?

Life shouldn’t bring you down every day.

Do you want a fresh new outlook on life today?

You’re only seeing the negative side of life,

which is filled with unhappiness, grief, and strife.

The positive side of life is equally true.

So may I present it to you?

I just might have the right words to say

to cheer you up for the rest of the day!

God has a wonderful plan for your life.

Dreams coming true will bring you delight,

and I know that life will bring

to you every beautiful thing!

Suddenly, this exciting idea soars,

and all the promise of life is yours!

The hope that once died suddenly comes to life,

and in a flash, you are filled with joy and light!

The angel of joy has just stepped out of Heaven

to make your day a happier one!

Just as joy is here to charm your blues away,

God is here to put Heaven in your heart today!

Like a spring breeze from the sunniest clime,

He is here to bless you at this very time!

If you want to know how you can

discover the joy of living again,

take heart, because there really is a way

to have real joy in your life each day.

It is to show God’s love to people

in ways that are just beautiful!

Encourage yourself, because you know

how to have your love beautifully show!

Do something to make someone you love happy.

If you do, think how happy you will be!

And who knows, that just might be the very thing

that would make you feel like you want to sing!

All of the joy and love you will show

will color your life like a rainbow!

Then the Lord will bless you in many ways,

and return to you the joy of your happiest days.

Instant Cheer

Why so down in the mouth, dear?

You look like you could use some Instant Cheer.

It cures the blues and lifts you out of that.

I bet you’ll feel better in two seconds flat!

It’s not a drug; it’s not a fling;

it’s not a beer.

Only one thing

could give you some Instant Cheer.

It’s a love so fantastic

that it will make you get ecstatic!

You’ll feel like you want to sing

with all the joy that love can bring!

Instant Cheer will lift you out of your gloom,

so you can turn on your radiance as you enter a room.

When you act joyful and enthusiastic,

the results you’ll get will be fantastic!

Express your love to people joyfully.

This will cure the blues instantly!

When your daily life begins to bore you,

think what Instant Cheer could do for you!

If you try it when you’re bored stiff,

you’ll get the results you want in a jiff!

You’ll want to dance, you’ll want to sing,

you’ll get the lift that love can bring!

A Joyful Song

Whenever you play a joyful song,

dance to God or sing along.

This could bring you excitement quick!

Zest for life zooms out of the music!

You try to be totally alive, living life to the fullest;

you try to be on top of everything, and to feel your best.

But when you feel down in your darkest hour,

you need something to uplift you with power!

A joyful song has an awesome power over us,

and can cheer us up in times of sadness.

If the joy of your life is fading away,

then sing a joyful song to God each day.

He wants to hear from you a happy sound.

It will lift you up when you’re feeling down.

But if this doesn’t happen to work,

don’t get mad like a total jerk.

Just try showing love to others all you can,

and soon the whole world will look wonderful again!

The dismal side of life is what people see.

Most of them don’t know that life can be

marvelous, marvelous.

Love opens the door to all that is beautiful,

and makes the whole world look wonderful!

Instantly love can take away sadness,

and make a joyful feeling come over us.

Many sad people need to know

that expressing their love could be so

marvelous! Marvelous!

Just having God’s love is worth

more than all the treasures on Earth.

In our hearts it will always live

to bless and give, to bless and give.

There are those who see love as a reason

to bring God’s light into dark regions.

In their lives, pure love shines like a star.

Life Is Like A Movie

Life is like a movie, and you have an important part to play.

An angel is the cameraman, filming your life each day,

as you try to work your way up to a higher level.

The villain who tries to keep you down is the devil.

Someday you’ll have better conditions in which to live,

and life won’t be a hard performance to give.

On that day, you’ll fill a higher role

in service to God, and to the world as a whole.

The world is your audience before whom you perform

acts of compassion and love in true-to-life form.

When you carry on a campaign of love and goodwill,

act as if people love you, then they will.

I’m sure you’ll project a very positive image

as you dance and sing joyful songs on stage.

Try to be a symbol of God’s love, and once you are,

you’ll have more glamour than a movie star!

A Lovely Minuet

As they sing a lovely minuet,

enter into the music, and

let yourself float along with it.

Someone will take you by the hand,

and with one twirl around,

you’ll feel like you’re floating on a cloud.

Dance or twirl to a lovely minuet.

God loves to see you get into a joyful spirit.

He loves to see you get so happy.

While they play a pretty melody,

enter into the music, sing, and let yourself float along.

God loves to hear you sing a joyful song.

Someone will lift you up in the air, and you’ll float down to earth.

You were put here to sing and dance for all you’re worth.

So dear, dance your heavenly waltz to God,

and serve Him with all the vim you’ve got!

Before the nations you want to sing of this God of yours.

Deep in your heart, this exciting aspiration soars.

And you feel like all you want to do is to sing praise,

and to serve God for the rest of your days!
