Mark Howarth

Mark Howarth has been writing short stories since he was five years old, mostly in the form of little handwritten books which he illustrated himself, and involving his favourite superheroes. Now aged 10, Mark has written his first longer length story, and has created a whole new set of characters whose adventures we can follow. Mark has always had a very lively imagination. He loved to dress up as one of his favourite super heroes and go off outside to have imaginary light sabre battles as a Jedi Knight, or to pretend he could fly, just like Superman. He also has a keen interest in literature and the arts. He is an avid reader, and also attends Stagecoach drama school were he enjoys singing, dancing and drama. Mark loves writing, and has already been given the task by his leaders/teachers of writing newsletters and reports for his Cub pack and his school. PROLOGUE

    PROLOGUE (1011)

Long, long ago a battle of great power took place on the borders of what we now call England. It was a battle of men versus demon. The leader of the men was King Arûban. The leader of the demons was Alatt the lightning god, who held the sword Alanfee made with the power of shooting lightning beams. Arûban possessed the sword Arook made of lava mixed with the molten rock.

The men were coming close to victory and were taking the demons out like water takes fire out on a matchstick, but only until Alatt came forwards to fight. He hit five rows of the men’s army through the air with one beam, but missed King Arûban for he ducked very low and managed to dodge the beam. King Arûban rushed forwards to fight Alatt. Arûban was a skilled fighter and was able to keep up with Alatt’s speed. Then he made a very powerful stroke with Arook and knocked Alanfee out of Alatt’s hand. Arûban quickly put Arook away and picked Alanfee up, Alatt stepped back and then Arûban made a wave with Alanfee and it hit the ground and made a big yellow line. The line went under Alatt’s legs and then lightning shot out from inside and then exploded and Alatt along with it, it also took around half the demon army. The few of the demon army that were left ran, and the army of men took almost every other one that was left apart from a few, no more than 80 remained alive. Men had won the most dangerous battle of all time or had they……?

    I FORGOTTEN MEMORIES REVEALED (1402)

It is nearly 400 years later and Alatt has almost been completely forgotten by men, only the kin of Arûban remember Alatt and even they do not speak of him much because even they don’t remember him very well. They remember him most when they walk through their home city, Hantell, the city that has stood since the time of Arûban. The one person who remembers Arûban most is Prince Hiron IV and his sister Belle II. Belle is studying dark magic, her main subject is moving things with her mind and Hiron is a strong, skilled and noble prince who would be brave enough to take on Alatt himself. He is also truly honourable to his people.

One day when Hiron was helping the maid to tidy up his father’s bed chamber, he found a very unusual thing. It was a map, but no ordinary map. It had a circle split into quarters with a picture of an arm in one quarter and one in another, a leg in one and one in another and a big box with a head, a body, two wings and a tail. There were more papers, one of them read, ‘Alatt has been set into pieces by his own blade, two arms, two legs and a head, a body, two wings and his tail. The arms are in two quarters of the Earth and the two legs are in the other two quarters and the head, the body, the wings and the tail have been put into a box and have been cast by spell into the outer world, in space. They only need to be put together and the lightning god Alatt will be remade, so we put all the pieces in different places to make sure he will never walk on the Earthion again.’ 24th November 1110.
