    Thanksgiving

First, a big thank you to God almighty without whose grace and blessings this book would have never got published. Secondly, to my wonderful parents Deepa Suresh and Suresh Babu K who took the initiative and pain to publish it and used up all their words of encouragement in the process. I can never forget my friends and teachers who, like the lights and decorations hanging on a Christmas tree kept showing me the way to develop new ideas for my stories, corrected my mistakes and brightened me, the Christmas tree. I would love to mention a few of their names too: Lathika Lekshmi (teacher), Gouri Krishnan, Syamanda, Anusha, Vindhya, Samyuktha, Vishnupriya, Shreeya, Sruti and Sana. I take this opportunity to even thank many of my well wishers and supporters and urge them to continue supporting. Last, but not the least, a big thanks to Partridge Publishing India and its expert teams who were very cooperative throughout the process of publishing.

    Chapter 1

    A Terrible Experience for Teena

It was a bright, sunny morning. Teena was sleeping. Her mother came inside and opened the windows. The sun’s glare met Teena’s face. Her mother called out, ‘Teena, get up and have your breakfast. Don’t you want to go and meet your friend?’

Teena remembered that Jaden was returning from Yorkshire by train, and all the five friends, Rita, Clara, Joe, Raven, and herself, had promised to meet at the station for receiving Jaden. Teena thought how wonderful it would be to reunite with her friends. They were planning to share their holiday news.

She got up, quickly took a bath, ate her breakfast, and got ready to go. Her mother dropped her at the station with her other friends. ‘Come back soon,’ called out Teena’s mother.

The five friends were happy to meet again after a long break. Then suddenly, they heard the sound of a train. The train stopped at the station, and a girl came out along with her parents. It was Merina Williams, the favourite actress of the girls. Looking at the expression on Teena, Clara, and Rita’s faces, Joe and Raven felt surprised. In a short while, there was a horrifying shock. Behind Merina came Rose Mary, one of Teena’s worst nightmares. Merina and Rose started talking and laughing together. A mob of people surrounded them. Teena suspected whether Rose was related to Merina. Teena was so fond of the young actress that she wanted to meet her, but with Rose around, she would never do such a thing. Then she understood that she had actually seen Rose’s parents and not Merina’s. The four friends now looked at Teena’s startled face. Even Rita and Clara wanted to meet Merina, but they stood with Teena.

Merina’s hair was of glowing silver colour that looked like the mane of a unicorn. Rose gestured to Merina as both of them came near Teena. It was as if Rose had told everything about Teena to Merina even the things that were not true. As Merina walked a little further, Rose turned back and walked straight towards Teena. Teena had an angry expression on her face. She didn’t like Rose at all. Rose spoke. ‘Aren’t you surprised, Teena? You will be pleased to know that Merina is my cousin.’

‘What!’ exclaimed Teena. She hid her face and walked a little away from Rose.

Rose was very happy. She liked troubling Teena. She then went to her parents on hearing them call her. Teena’s friends were astonished. They looked behind them, and saw Teena brushed away in a thought. They went near her and tried to calm her. Suddenly, Joe looked at his watch and said that it was almost time for Jaden’s train.

Teena did not hear anything. She was still thinking. In a few minutes came a train that made such a loud noise that she had to skip her thoughts and look at it. Jaden came out of the train. The six friends were merged into one again. Teena hesitantly came back to reality and greeted her friend, Jaden, but Jaden was an astute observer.
