PREFACE

The evolution of life that had started on earth billions of years ago with the origin of life is considered to be a process still continuing. Thousands of species have appeared and disappeared as well throughout the geological time period in this process. The scientific theories have concluded that some accidental incidents taking place in the nature to be the primary cause whereas almost all the religious theories considered it to be a supernatural act of God. But here in this book, the origin and evolution of life has been considered to be a political act. Let it be the Nature as the science says or the God as the religion says, the act remains same. It is the nature or God who is the ultimate dictator and we are going to see that in this book. I have tried to add a new dimension in the human search for the phenomena of the most mysterious thing that could have happened on this planet- the origin and evolution of life. It is neither a scientific, technical book nor a religious book. Here science and religious have been combined within the framework of politics and society with a philosophical tinge. I hope the reader will enjoy reading this book.

Chapter 1

THE BEGINNING

The beginning of evolution took place millions of years ago as one of the most mysterious incident took place on the face of this planet and that is the birth of life. If we go by the Big Bang theory the beginning of everything, as it is popularly known i.e. the birth of universe, space and time took place almost 13.6 billion years ago. The formation of earth took place almost 4.6 billion years ago. The first creation of most primitive form of life appeared almost 3.6 Billion years ago as we understand today. And with the birth of life the playground started to be organized. It is the playground on which mother nature is about to start her game. We shall see shortly how the nature or the so called God as most of the people tend to consider, started to play the brilliant and ingenious political game with the political actors being appeared in the political arena in the form of numerous species on the face of Earth.

It is required to note here that, our motive in this book is not to discuss the philosophy of the existence of God, nor to shake anybody’s personal belief. In fact here in this book we are going to take the faith along with the science into our consideration. We are going to consider God synonymous with nature. This is for the simple reason that God is believed to be the creator in every religion, and nature is considered to be performing the same task based on the scientific evidences. Here we are not going to see things from the point of view of atheist or theist, areligious or religious, irrationalist or rationalist. Instead we are going to take both religion and science in a single basket to visualize the evolutionary phenomena working beyond everything and anything.

It is interesting to observe here that religion and science, though considered to be two opposite pole, both have the same source of origin. It is human’s confrontation with nature which gave birth to both religion and science. Man fears them most what they don’t understand. Man’s incomprehensibility of natural phenomena made them afraid. He started to find the answer of many unanswered questions that the nature has filled his mind with. In his search for answers he adopted many tactics, sometime plain worship of god, which they used to relate with one or other natural phenomenon or sometimes he started to experiment in the hope of finding some evidence or some clear answer. Those incidents, he succeeded to find the answer of, became science. But those incidents, he failed to achieve to a satisfactory conclusion or remained unanswered, became religion. So, religion and science are not actually two opposite poles, they are just two opposite side of the same page. One side is on the light, and the other is in the dark. Dark side has remained mysterious to the people so far for the simple reason of its unanswerability. Religion took its birth from here. Our motive here is not to defy the arguments of either religion or science but to combine them holistically to understand the political working beyond both of them.

The process of evolution started with the origin of life and it is still in process. Evolution is a process of continuous change in life form for the purpose of adaptation and betterment of life formats in the conditions and environment prevalent in a particular habitat in a particular period of time.

After the origin of Earth, the environment has undergone changes continuously, from hot, gaseous, inhabitable planet to cool and habitable planet it has become. And with the origin of life it has undergone continuous changes too, most preferably due to changes in environment. Numerous species appeared and disappeared on the face of earth in their struggle for existence.

Now while discussing evolution, as the scientific evidence suggests, it is considered that mutation to be the most prominent cause of variation which finally results into speciation giving birth to numerous species from a common ancestor. Each species is specially adapted in a particular environment that it lives in. Mutation is nothing but some random changes in genetic material. Every individual life contains a polymer like material of nucleic acid which in biological science is popularly known as genetic material, determines its all function. In case of unicellular organism the function of single cell and in case of multicellular organism, the collective results of the functions of all cells together determine the biological character of that particular organism.
