About this ebook

As Jesus was on his way, the crowds almost crushed him. And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, but no one could heal her. She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped. Who touched me? Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you. But Jesus said, Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.

Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. Then he said to her Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace (Luke 8:4048 NIV).

How wonderful it is to touch the very hem of His garment each time we open His words of truth in the Biblehidden treasures revealed through the presence of His Holy Spirit.

Have you ever thought about inviting a few ladies in your neighborhood over for coffee? Maybe you could share your favorite Scriptures from the Bible. It may be a particular Scripture that has brought you into a closer relationship with God. James 4:8 says, Come near to God and He will come near to you.

Years ago, I felt God tugging at my heart to bring a few neighbor ladies together. We began praying for each family living on our street. A few years have passed, but the result is this devotional. Now you are invited to share these devotions in the comfort of your own neighborhood.

Touching the Hem of His Garment is a series of devotions highlighting Scriptures from the Bible. They are each self-contained and can be used as a daily personal devotion or as a monthly neighborhood, coffee-type of devotion. The Scriptures are followed by meaningful referenced points and a prayer. Each prayer is specific to the heart of the devotion.

These devotions allow for discussion and sharing in any sized group. I discovered that small groups enable strengthening times for prayer and sharing individual needs. The devotions are a way of encouraging neighbors who are Christians, those seeking to know more about God and His teachings from the Bible, and those discovering how the Bible and its principles can apply to daily living. It is important that the devotion leader be a believer in Jesus Christ, one who recognizes the authority of the Bible as the truth from the Word of God.

The Scriptures are presented first, followed by key referenced points. The devotion leader is encouraged to share meaningful insights and examples. Those attending may also want to contribute as individual points are presented. The devotion and fellowship, which lasts for about an hour and a half, can be held monthly or bimonthly.

The phrase, touching the hem of His garment, is found in the Bible in Luke 8:40–48. It describes a woman who has suffered with an issue of blood for twelve years. She had been to many doctors throughout her long illness, but no one could help her. She was desperate. She came up behind Jesus, knowing that if she could just touch the fringe or hem of His garment, she would receive healing. She touched the edge of His cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped. Jesus said, Who touched me? I know that power has gone out from me. Seeing that she would not go unnoticed, the woman approached with trembling, fell at His feet, and explained why she touched Him—she believed Jesus was her only source of power for healing.
