I would first like to thank the research participants who came forward and allowed me to interview them and observe them demonstrate their mediumistic abilities. The mediums who allowed me to interview them and watch their demonstrations understood that it is sometimes difficult for researchers to accurately evaluate unique phenomena because of prevailing misunderstandings about mediumship.

Both the researcher and the medium take risks. The researcher is at risk because their findings that do not fit the status quo can hurt their reputations and future careers. Negative findings—especially those produced by lack of understanding—can damage relationships and limit future research opportunities with genuine mediums. Mediums and practitioners that produce novel experiences, such as full body materializations, are always at risk because they are never sure what results will be published. Most concerning is that energy healers, physical mediums, mental mediums, and those who allege to communicate with extraterrestials have an increased likelihood of being threatened as their work oftentimes confirms a reality that is not consistent with traditional perspectives in medicine and religion. We owe a lot to these practitioners who through their abilities teach us about the true nature of reality.

Thank you to the research participants who completed online surveys and took the time to share testimonies and experiences. It is not always easy for research participants to come forward and share their experiences related to energy healing, past life regression, physical mediumship, out of body experience and communication with extraterrestrials. These topics are still not scientifically accepted and make it difficult for individuals to talk about experiences that may create doubt about their sanity or credibility.

There were those that simplified my access to key mediums and practitioners. Some of you also trusted me with sensitive material not already in the public domain so that I would have a deeper understanding of an issue I was examining. Thank you to Carolyn Molnar, Sonia Rinaldi, Tariq Sattaur, Victor and Wendy Zammit, Inge Crosson and Rev. Thomas Newman. INTRODUCTION

This book is about my continuing journey to explore and uncover truths about the nature of the universe. This means understanding what underlies the physical plane that we use our normal senses to perceive. Now, I must admit that after conducting a three-year research study on mental mediumship and examining other survival of consciousness issues, I thought that these findings would be enough to answer questions like:

Who are we?

Where have we been?

How did we get here?

Where are we going?

What is the true nature of our reality?

Survival of Consciousness:

The hypothesis that after the death of the physical body, the soul including memories and personalities survives and can continue to interact with those living on the earth plane.

While I learned a lot from this first journey, along the way, there were even more phenomena encountered that needed further exploration. Before you come with me on this journey, let me give you some credible reasons to review this phenomenon via my lens.

First, let me explain a bit about myself. I am not a medium although you will read about various types of mediumistic abilities in this book. In other words, you will never see me standing up on a platform claiming to be able to speak to your past family members in the spirit world. I will say, however, that from a young age, I have had many spiritual experiences that gave me the impetus to further read and research about paranormal issues in a systematic manner.

Throughout this book, I will reveal some of my personal spiritual experiences to complement the phenomena we are discussing. As a social scientist for the past twenty-two years, I have been conducting and overseeing studies in the criminal justice and health fields. My experience using rigorous methods including systematic reviews, quasi-experimental designs, matched comparison groups, all types of qualitative research and multivariate analyses has provided me with the range of tools needed to study paranormal phenomena.

While it is useful to have scientists give their assessments of these experiences, it is best for you to wear your critical hat and be discerning about everything you learn. The idea here is that when faced with phenomena that do not fit with your social conditioning, it is important to get all the facts and arrive at your own conclusions. If you can experience this phenomena first hand, it would be ideal and will allow you to judge the truth.

For those of you who have not had any spiritual experiences, a second option is to learn about the information from an objective assessment. While conducting research for my first book, Medium7: Evidence of the Afterlife¹ and Predictions, questions were answered but new phenomena emerged for which I was not prepared to address at the time. For example, when mediums I interviewed began to talk about partially appearing hands and bodies, I thought, Hang on here, does this currently fit within the realm of reality or fantasy? I had created this square box for myself that said, I can only process certain extraordinary claims in small doses—only one at a time please!

Some of the mental mediums also talked about being energy healers and while I was hearing and seeing these claims during the Medium7 research days, I could not say much about it until more systematic research became available. Therefore, as you will see in this book, I was inspired to learn more about claims made during my initial research. In my first book, I struggled with making decisions about whether I could publish information about hands materializing out of nowhere. The claims made in this book are extraordinary. It is comforting that they are no longer burning witches at the stake or persecuting the researchers that study and report on phenomenon that would have at one time been considered heresy and could have resulted in a punishment for treason! Outside of burning at the stake, any other result is bearable when the pros of stating the truth outweigh the cons.

I have been intrigued by the powers of the energy responsible for the phenomena discussed in this book. Why is it so intriguing? It is fascinating to know that a non-physical force that is difficult to measure and prove contributes to beneficial phenomena. I began to realize there were many forms of non-physical energy that humanity did not either understand or did not know how to access. My purpose in this book is to reveal these various forms so you can harness them and positively transform your life.

This non-physical force has contributed to unique voices and materializations in a physical séance. We will also see how this inexplicable force creates a reunion between those passed into spirit and the living. This energy is also present in mental mediumship. When messages from the spirit world are shared with the living via a medium, most refer to this energy as psychic energy—where the use of clairvoyance, clairsentience, and clairaudience is used to provide information to verify that we don’t die.

This mysterious energy is present when we have an out of body experience. When we change vehicles and move from the physical body into the astral body, we are experiencing yet another form of this energy. We will see how this energy form leads to great exploration, increased knowledge, and potential healing.

Those who are familiar with complementary alternative healing techniques refer to this non-physical force as healing energy, chi or prana—they all represent an energy that can unblock or rebalance the energy body to regain healing. The form changes yet again, when we examine past life regression therapy—hypnosis resulting in altered states of consciousness allow us to gain access to important information about our past lives. Such information can often transform current lives.

What exactly is this enigmatic form? I have used the umbrella term spiritual energy to describe all the various energy forms referred to in this book. Some have used the term spiritual, psychic and healing energy, to describe this non-physical form. I have selected this umbrella term as it suggests there are powers that can positively transform lives, create inspiration, improve positive motivation, and create both emotional and physical well-being. The term spiritual is not used in the religious sense. Instead it describes an experience that can be miraculous but not be explicable by traditional science or physical laws.

One reason these terms spiritual—psychic—healing energy are often used interchangeably is that their essence is still unclear. It is similar to the concept of love. We feel it with every sense in our body, yet try to measure it, or even explain it and we find that difficult to do.

When grappling with the idea of non-physical energy, keep some of the following basic points in mind:

We are all vibrational beings. All matter is energy vibrating at various frequencies;

Vibrational energy will change forms but it can never be destroyed;

Slowing down the speed of energy, known as the vortex will result in materialization and speeding up the vortex will result in dematerialization; and

The faster the vibrations, the more likely you are to align with highly evolved masters. Alignment with higher vibrations provides opportunities for enhanced knowledge, healing and greater well-being².

As you move through the various chapters in the book, I will reveal the answers to these questions:

Has Science Always Been Right?

In the first chapter, my intent is to set the foundation for the rest of the chapters. When you consider the extraordinary claims in this book, it is critical that you understand that there were many astonishing assertions made decades ago that are now considered the norm. I will take you through some of those past claims that are now fully integrated into our society. You will learn about the risks, ridicule and history surrounding the advent of flying and the unwavering support that empowered the eugenics movement. We will also explore how inappropriate research methods of one energy healer redirected and misled the scientific community away from important discoveries.

Why do new phenomena that do not fit within the accepted realms of science take so much time to gain recognition? Why is it that even when we have enough evidence about new ideas are we afraid to implement them? Why don’t we put people first and leave our financial and political interests last? We will explore these issues in chapter 1. After seeing key extraordinary historic events transform into everyday norms, this chapter will help you consider the current claims that have not yet made it into mainstream science.

Once you have read Chapter 1, my hope is that you will have considered history and the processes that hindered change. This will help you suspend judgment and realize that we are at a pivotal point in history where truths are being revealed, and long held beliefs and powers are being discarded.

For those of you who have questions about the true nature of reality, studying and experiencing physical mediumship with credible mediums can be a life changing experience. When I began to identify strong evidence that certain mediums were getting information from those who had transitioned into the spirit world, I thought this was enough evidence to confirm that humankind lives on after the physical death of the body. However, what if you were able to experience a séance where a physical medium produces a substance that allows members of the spirit world to appear into the physical world? What if you could hear and feel your loved one in the spirit world again? What would it take to believe that this could be possible especially when it defies everything we know to be true? What if you were in a séance room and heard a past loved one and learned information from them that no one else could know—would this be enough to convince you that those in spirit can return in the physical form under certain conditions?

I present a detailed analysis of physical mediumship in Chapters 2 and 3. My direct experiences in physical mediumship séances, communications with other scientists and the important integration of key literature are the basis for my analysis. Before I made a decision to write about materialization and physical mediumship, I considered the potential ridicule and the difficulties of measuring the validity of this phenomenon. While traveling and taking part in the research, I was partially ready to unravel the mysteries of this potential life transforming possibility. Unfortunately, a big part of me was full of doubt and in fear that talking about parts of bodies materializing into the séance room could simply result in me spending the rest of my days locked up in a straitjacket. I had thoughts of my good reputation as a rigorous scientist just floating up and away in a hot-air balloon.

These doubts persisted until I met someone during one of the physical mediumship séances who inspired me to share what I knew. I met a professor from a reputable university in the United States. He told me that he was a regular at these séances and had realized that his teachings in the classroom were significantly less important than what he was learning in the séance room. Just before we parted, I remember him turning around and saying, "Donna, don’t end up like me. I am a tenured professor that cannot write about this until I retire. I want to share the truth about what I know and my credentials would help the cause, but I don’t want to lose my funding and my career. You can share and perhaps help many people—so do what you have to do and don’t look back."

I have never forgotten this conversation and I thank this unnamed professor for what you will read. I realized at that moment that I had fewer limits than others had and felt a sense of duty to reveal my findings. There were many before us who suffered ridicule and persecution, sometimes in the face of more adversity but if we are given the experience, the tools and the courage, why would we live our lives in a risk averse manner? Why would we play it safe and wait for others to take the risk for change? Even at this time, there is great disagreement among scholars and religious groups about the credibility of physical mediumship. Though bringing this knowledge into the mainstream could require a rewrite of educational and medical textbooks, humankind will survive the controversy. We will benefit from the knowledge that we are spiritual beings who even after transitioning to the spirit world, under certain conditions can don a physical body and interact with other physical beings.

Although controversial, I share the information with you to raise awareness and help you come to your own conclusions. Since writing my first book, it gave me great pleasure to learn that readers were inspired to discover and read further because of what I wrote. They are now open to new truths and can make better decisions about how to walk on their journey with truth and purpose.

As well as describing key experiences that take place in the physical mediumship séance, I examine the hard questions critics raise, including:

If materialization of a discarnate (a spirit without a physical body) into a physical form is real, why does it take place in darkness?

How do you know it was your passed loved one that materialized?

Where are the videos displaying materialization?

Why does one physical medium work in red light so you can see the events unfolding while the other only uses luminous plaques?

How does materialization work?³

What are the rival theories raised about the phenomena in the 21st century?

I also share some close up case studies with two physical mediums for you to better understand the history, context, personal motives and development they experienced leading up to demonstrating this type of phenomena.

Once we can authenticate that this phenomena is valid, we can further explore how the spiritual and psychic energy produced from this experience can potentially benefit humanity.

Revisiting Mental Mediumship

In Chapter 4, I examine mental mediumship case studies that have had a positive impact on lives. Although physical mediumship provides the ultimate evidence of an afterlife, people have more access to mental mediums. With this access, sitters or those receiving a reading from a mental medium are often provided with details that help them gain knowledge not normally accessible by using their normal five senses.

Revisiting mental mediumship since my initial research has also provided me with an opportunity to discuss key issues that continue to plague skeptics. These issues leave cynics hung up on one area, blocking their ability to understand their own powers. I will explore the misunderstandings related to scoring hits and misses in mediumship. Skeptics tend to declare fraud and lack of proof in excellent readings because of not understanding how to measure mediumship using a non-reductionist paradigm⁴.

After receiving social media correspondence about common misconceptions, I have provided responses in this section of the book to help truth seekers move beyond some of the distractions that keep people from learning the truth about who they are. Each week, I receive the same question in my inbox: If mediumship is real, why hasn’t any psychic or medium won the Amazing Randi’s million-dollar challenge? We examine how the myth of the million dollar challenge has kept thousands of people questioning their own truths. We will also explore the difference between cold and genuine readings. This is especially important as some of the best evidence that mediums are communicating with a discarnate who once lived on the physical plane, is labeled a cold reading by skeptics. Magicians and mentalists are often brought forward to demonstrate how they produce cold readings without having any psychic abilities and this inaccurate reproduction of a mental mediumship reading is all it takes to suppress and mislead truth-seekers.

Journeys Outside of Your Body

In addition to examining mental mediumship, I have always been an advocate about the importance of examining other lines of evidence about survival of consciousness using different methods. For example, I have previously explored how near death experiences, remote viewing, and deathbed visions have contributed strong evidence that our consciousness exists outside of our physical body. I had not given the topic of Out of Body Experiences (OBE) the analysis and discussion it deserved in my first book.

I had been reluctant to discuss out of body experiences. I can recall being at an event with like-minded practitioners and researchers who all seemed to understand and believe in survival of consciousness. I assumed they had an understanding of the duality of the physical body and soul. Don’t ever assume that because someone believes they can talk to dead people they will also believe they have the ability to leave their physical body and fly around the astral realm! While standing with this group of people laughing and sharing, I decided to share my first experience with astral travel—where you are conscious that your soul has left the physical body and is free to explore the astral dimension. Well, first the non-verbal cues were a sign that my social interaction score was rapidly declining. A few people who were initially engaged in my circle slowly started to distance themselves.
