About this ebook

This is my second book of poems about many things that happen in life. I have written these poems from experiences that I have lived, things that my friends, coworkers and others have passed on to me and things that have just popped out of my head. When you are reading this book, you will fi nd yourself changing the name(s) in the poems with the name of someone you know. I enjoyed bringing the words in these poems to life for your reading. I want to thank you for purchasing this book so that I may share my feelings and observations with other people.

    Dedication

This book is dedicated to Jesse Lidstrom. This young man has come a long way since an accident years ago. Through the love and hard work of his family, he has accomplished amazing things no matter how small they may seem. There is a poem in this book about Jesse and his family.

It is also dedicated to my good friend Bert Fitch who continues to give cancer a fight like it has never seen before. Like the first book, this one also has a poem for my good friend.

    A CHANCE MEETING

She saw him coming down the street that day,

Her heart jumped as she thought of them together in the hay.

She chastised herself for this thought,

She enjoyed the feeling that it brought.

As he came closer his looks were pure hansom,

If he was kidnapped she would gladly pay the ransom.

Her face turned red as he stopped and said Hi,

That he would stop and talk to her, she wondered why

Before she knew it, he had asked her for a date,

She was worried all day that she would not look first rate.

He picked her up exactly when he said he would,

She loved the flowers and wanted to look as good as she could.

That night he made her feel the best ever,

She never felt anything like this; no never.

Their friendship escalated almost too fast for her,

When he asked her to marry him, she wanted to be sure.

Her silence made him nervous; then she smiled and said yes,

Their love for each other showed; neither one had to guess.

Their first twenty-five years of marriage came fast,

They had been through hard times but knew it would last.

Their two children were always given all their love,

Their love for their children wraps around their hearts like a glove.

At their golden anniversary they were both showing gray,

They found comfort in a friend’s barn as they lay on the hay.

The Big C took him first with her a little later to follow,

For their children and friends, this void left them hollow.

Now they are together at the Lord’s side,

They hold hands and smile as they begin their long ride.

    A FARMERS LIFE

The rain kept coming day after day,

The alfalfa molded in the fields before turning to hay.

The rich black North Dakota dirt turned into mud,

Any machinery that dared to enter was covered with crud.

Many farmers did not get their crops planted in the field,

It was as if the water was used as an impassible shield.

The rain was predictable; not like it was on a lark,

The farmers could make more money selling tickets to their water park.

What used to be a ditch is now a lake,

What used to be a field is now an ocean; what a bad break.

Farmers always live on God’s schedule every year,

Some years there a happy tears; other years are sad tears.

Farmers are people of strong faith in the Lord,

They know they have to stay within what they can afford.

One year God will test their faith to a limit but they will not drop,

Another year God will send them a message through abundant crops.

No matter what weather God sends them,

When they finally meet him, he will see them as a gem.

Farmers will continue to feed the people from their land,

Their toil to meet the demands of the people can be seen in their hands.

They will continue until age requires them to rest,

Their children will carry on this tradition continuing to be the best.

A FRIENDSHIP OF LIFE AND BEYOND

Throughout a person’s life they have friends and then they have FRIENDS,

It is very special for people; what these kinds of friendships lend.

Debbie had a friend like this whose name was Kenny,

He was the kind of person who would give you his last penny.

Their friendship lasted a very happy 20 years,
