Foreword
The unrelenting demand of cosmetic surgery lately has spurred an unprecedented demand for more improved appearance-changing procedures. With the advancement however, many treatments can fulfil the promise of a more youthful look, beautiful skin and desirable body. Thus, it becomes increasingly important for an average consumer to be able to discern the hype from what really works. In many ways, a book defines a particular discipline, and this is especially true in the evolution of modern cosmetic surgery.
The education of the plastic surgeon and the reference material that is critically needed are no longer limited to the printed page or what is described in modern parlance as hard copy
. Certainly, Gutenberg’s invention of movable type printing around 1439 allowed publication and distribution of the classic texts of Vesalius (Fabrica, 1543) and Tagliacozzi (De Curtorum Chirurgia Per Insitionem (1597) and for many years, this was the only medium in which surgeons could be educated. The development of the internet has however, placed almost all information at the fingertips of surgeons around the world with computer access.
In turn, we now have virtual surgery education in which the student or surgeon sitting at a computer is interactive with a software program containing animations, intra-operative videos with sound overlay, and access to the world literature on a particular subject. We are rapidly progressing from the bound book era to the currently ubiquitous hand held device or tablet for the mastery of surgical/knowledge. This book will provide information such as the types of procedures currently available in the market, effectiveness, possible side-effects and etc.
If you look around us, they are so many famous, wealthy personalities who are also looking fit, not just handsome and beautiful and elegant, but most importantly they are very fit: Dato Michelle Yeoh, Dato Jimmy Choo, Nicholas Teo, Ling Tan, Sheila Majid, Nichol David, Lee Chong Wei, Dato Siti Nurhaliza, Dato Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, Robert Kuok, Ananda Krishnan, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Vincent Tan, Amber Chia, Anthony Fernandes, and numerous others. Many of them are living an active life, staying alert, and full of energy and vitality, contributing a great deal to the society. They live a very healthy lifestyle.
In addition, you’ll find helpful articles from this publication, Look Young Feel Young and Stay Young. Through these important articles, I think you’ll find excellent clinical and surgical insight that will enable you to achieve better outcomes with improved patient safety and satisfaction.
I hope you enjoy reading this special book and understand why cosmetic procedures truly bring order, hope, and esteem back to our lives.
