AN OMINOUS VISITOR
W hile the Carters made supper, Steve stood next to his wife Annie and noticed she seemed taller, as beautiful as ever, but taller. She wasn’t wearing her high heels so he couldn’t understand what was going on. And her clothes looked so tight.
He laughed, I can’t be shrinking, can I?
Lately he noticed she was eating much more than usual. After dinner they relaxed in their beautiful big living room and watched the CBS news. Several scientists were interviewed about their analysis of a strange meteor-like sphere that had recently circled the globe and shocked everyone and how it was affecting human beings. Actually, just women. A prominent Harvard scientist echoed the opinion of many other experts. He felt the sphere’s vibrations affected feminine DNA, but not men’s, all over the country and perhaps the world. Women’s appetites were increasing and their bodies were growing taller and stronger.
Steve and Annie looked at each other and Steve said, Annie, can you stand up next to me for a second? Let’s go in front of a mirror.
They both were shocked. There was no doubt that Annie had really risen in height just recently. After they measured her they realized she was now 5'9, an increase of four inches in three weeks from her previous 5'5
. Steve hugged Annie because he could see she was very frightened. She was in tears.
Oh dear, oh dear, I thought something was happening to me, but I just tried to ignore it.
In fact, that was what most people had been doing, but now that the truth was out, ignoring was just ignorance, and very important questions were being asked by everyone: When will this effect cease, and could it be harmful?
Three months later doctors and scientists had come to the conclusion that there were no harmful effects from the vibrations. However, the growth in women had not ceased. In fact it was increasing measurably. Women were becoming so much stronger. They were actually getting stronger and taller than most men. The world was in turmoil, and the news focused on watching and waiting. When was this unbelievable growth syndrome going to end?
Then it happened. Six months after the strange vibrations entered the earth’s atmosphere, the effect on women’s bodies stopped. Most women were now so much taller than they were before the sphere’s effect. Girls in school were teased and called giants. The women’s clothing industry skyrocketed, although woman’s high heels were now out of fashion. The demand for bigger women’s shoes rivaled the demand for higher heeled men’s boots. Grocery stores struggled to meet the new food demand. It was a different world, and the next chapter was about to begin.

CRAZY CHAOS
T he six months after the sphere’s visit were perhaps the most turbulent times in the history of mankind. Actually, no one knew what to think. While women’s abnormal growth had continued, most of the world had not started to contemplate what this change in the human species was going to mean for civilization. One would guess this was because everyone was in shock. People were simply blown away by the changes that were happening to the ladies and were fearful that it was never going to stop. Studies had shown that all women had grown taller by two feet or more. However, all the ramifications of this phenomenon had not been considered quite yet.
Then everything changed. The scientists announced that after examining all the recently gathered data from around the world, they felt confident saying the strange growth syndrome in women had finally ended. There was a sigh of relief all over the world. But the world would need more than a sigh of relief.
One evening during supper Steve sensed sadness on Annie’s face. Annie I love ya. Even though you’re two feet taller than me and we had to spend so much money on new clothes for you,
he said teasingly. Your size has nothing to do with my love for you. I love you for who you are. Your new body hasn’t changed all those wonderful feminine qualities of warmth and tenderness you show me and everybody else. And oh yes, your gorgeous blonde hair still knocks me dead. It hasn’t changed a bit. Maybe a little thicker,
he joked. And I just love your incredible beautiful long eye lashes.
Steve, I don’t know how I could survive this without you. You are the true man. Can I give you a hug?
Sure, just don’t squeeze me too hard, you almost broke a rib last night,
Steve kidded. Remember, I’m kinda skinny.
Annie got up and hugged Steve and kissed him on the top of his head. It was obvious she was not happy with what was happening.
This didn’t seem to be the case with her friend and neighbor, Jane Porter. Jane was thrilled with her new size. Although the Carters and the Porters both believed families should consider themselves teams, Jane’s husband, Bob, felt he was the quarterback. In fact he looked like one with his broad shoulders and muscular arms. He was considered tall and handsome in spite of his graying hair, and he was really strong, too. He loved Jane deeply, but he felt it was his job and even his right, to order her and their two girls around, making all the important decisions for the family
on his own. On the other hand their neighbors Steve, who never ordered anyone around, and Annie seemed to feel they were playing mixed doubles. Their team was a partnership of equality.
Unlike Annie, Jane, with her new very long dark hair and beautiful bright smile, loved the fact that she had grown so much taller and was now even stronger than Bob. This physical change to all women reinforced the power of the women’s movements.
"Wait Bob,
