About this ebook

The Kitchen Poems were written after I came home from work...sometimes tired, but oftentimes with ideas that had been running through my head all day long...so many different topics...the colors of the day.
Sometimes I was sad...othertimes joyous...but feeling very much alive...and anxious to share my thoughts... the best way I could ...through rhymes and pictures I could draw with words.
This book is a view inside my head...as I was figuring things out...for myself...but wanting to share with others....hope I did a good job.

Kitchen Poems - Daniel Joseph Magee

    The Dark of Morning

    2009 November 29

It’s just the first dog barking

That makes me start to wake.

    Then movement ’neath the covers

And the cobwebs start to shake.

    My favorite of hours…

    The time before the light…

    The darkness of the morning…

The end of dreams in flight.

    The night it passes quickly.

    The stories have gone cold

That filled my sleep with action,

    And the secrets they unfold.

The day has not yet come forth.

It waits to show it’s light.

The start of things we have to do…

The time is not yet right.

This time of last nights darkness

    Looks different to me.

It’s time to get a bite to eat

And have a cup of tea.

It’s not the dark of mourning…

    The cause of sometime’s tears.

It’s the dark before the morning

That brings the gift of years.

    Another day before us…

A time to make things right…

    It’s not the darkness creeping…

That gives us such a fright.

It’s the moment of the nightime

    That starts another day.

The time to be so thankful…

The time to stop and pray.

Just think of all the wonders

    Your years have given you.

The chance for more than magic

    Awaits upon the dew.

    Behind the newborn sunrise

Is the day you might have missed.

    The silence of the moment

Or the rapture of a kiss.

It’s the day that you are given.

Make sure you take great care.

You may not know what’s waiting

But it’s yours to live out there.

    A Glass of Wine

    2009 November 14

Oh give me some time, and a glass of wine

And I’ll always start to fill

The air with pictures of the past

And how I made them mine.

The glass will clear the way so fast

    It hardly has a
