    INTRODUCTION

    "Then I remember sunshine,

    The Autumn rich with gold,

    And tawny fields a-flower

    With wonders quite untold."

    Autumn Storehouse

    - Virginia Borman Grimmer -

Custodio de la Fe O’Donnell descended from a long line of O’Donnell leprechauns. His ancestor Aidan O’Donnell, in a fit of restlessness, had decided that a life at sea was exactly what he needed. As Ireland had no Navy, Aidan O’Donnell blinked * from County Donegal down to County Galway and signed onto the crew of a Spanish galleon. Long days of gale-force winds and even longer nights of rough seas weakened his resolve for a seaman’s life. As a result, all desire to live at sea deserted him and by the time of the ship’s arrival in warm and sunny Seville, taking an immediate liking to all things Spanish, Aidan O’Donnell settled in for a long stay.

In fact, a century would pass before descendants of Aidan O’Donnell, namely Andres de la Santa Cruz O’Donnell and two of his cousins, Gregorio Jose Maria O’Donnell and Teodosio Cristiano O’Donnell, now in their turn yearning for a life at sea and hearing of a great Spanish Armada sailing to fight the English, signed on board the Falcon Blanco Mediano only a day before the Armada set sail.
