CHAPTER ONE
Celebration
T he war would always go on, but the battle is over for now and now it was time for celebrating. When the chosen ones returned to their homes the summer was only half over and they had only one thing on their minds, studying for their drivers’ licenses.
After hours of studying and anticipation for the driver’s test which is now a thankfully faded memory, Alex, Sarah and Derek had passed with perfect scores and were now the proud owners of their brand new driver’s licenses.
Given what they are it really shouldn’t have come as a surprise to anyone that they would all ace the test and receive perfect scores.
Alex had called Sarah and Derek and invited them to come to Amsterdam to celebrate their new found independence together.
It was a good excuse to get all the families together again for a reunion. The last time they all gathered they were preparing for battle. No one knew then at that time what the outcome would be or who would or would not make it out alive.
That was the first time all the families gathered together. It wasn’t a time for celebration then, it was a time filled with dreaded anxiety as they had to watch their children go to battle and face evil with only a handful of magical beings to help them. And thankfully they all made it out, some injured, but all alive and victorious.
It must have been fate that Lucifer was not in the Underworld at that time. Things may have ended very differently had he been there to organize and lead his followers.
Because Monty is Derek’s best friend and neighbour and played an important role in helping in the battle, he and his family were also included in the invitation. Being the same age as the other three, he also took and passed his test, but with less than a perfect score, only because he was not allowed to use his powers to help him ace the test. Of course the other three did not use their gift to cheat on the test. Everything just came to them so much easier.
There was plenty of room, enough for them all in Hans Delhome’s very large Manor home. Each family was graciously given a separate suite and made to feel very welcomed.
The staff showed their pleasure in their warm smiles. Seeing how happy it made their little Alexandra to have them there was enough for them to make the guests feel very welcomed indeed.
They adored Alexandra and cherished her from the day she was born.
One by one the families arrived and were shown to their rooms. They were given time to settle in before gathering downstairs in the large parlor. Of course, Sarah, Derek and Monty didn’t need time to settle in. The four of them immediately headed up to Alex’s room while their parents unpacked.
The boys grabbed a seat on the divan while the girls sat on the large canopied bed, they talked excitedly catching up about their days spent since they had last seen each other.
Because their mission and the battle happened during the beginning of their summer vacation from school they didn’t miss any of their normal schooling. This weekend together was going to be spent enjoying the company of each other.
Monty was fully recovered from the spell the fallen Angels had cast upon him. He was still miffed about not being able to recall all that had happened and said as much to his friends.
It was not your fault Monty,
Sarah tried to soothe his ruffled feathers.
Yeah, well you don’t have to be under the constant watchful eyes of your parents like I’ve been.
Monty pouted. They won’t let me out of there sight. It’s really pathetic the way they hover around me. It’s almost as bad as the way the Winters’ used to treat Derek.
Hey, my grandparents just loved me is all.
Derek resented that remark against his grandparents.
Well that kind of love I can do without.
He jabbed Derek in the ribs.
Everything turned out as it should,
Alex jumped in. I for one am glad the whole thing is over and we can get back to normal.
Alex,
Sarah touched Alex’s shoulder, it’s not over, really. We were lucky to stop Lucifer but we all know he will want revenge for losing that battle. And you know that we will never be normal.
It will take him some time to come up with something, don’t worry.
Alex smiled at her. Maybe we will never be normal, but for now let’s just put it out of our minds and enjoy ourselves. We got our drivers licenses.
She bounced happily.
Yeah,
Monty agreed. I got my first dent too,
he laughed, puffing himself up very proud of his achievement. He kept that a secret from his best friend Derek.
Of course you did Monty,
Sarah snickered.
Hey it wasn’t my fault a dumb gazelle picked that moment to jump out in front of me.
He snapped back.
And how fast were you going at the time the poor animal tried crossing in front of you?
Sarah lifted her eyebrow.
That’s not the point,
he pouted. At lease I managed to pull out of the spin just before the tree caught the bumper.
He puffed himself up again.
No kidding?
Derek was proud of his friend’s sharp reflexes. But he thought it a bit odd that he kept that exciting news from him.
Yeah, it was cool.
Are you going back to Mrs. Jenkins after the holidays?
Alex asked.
That wiped the satisfied smirk off his face as Alex predicted it would.
Dad said I have to go back and finish my training.
He scowled. I don’t see why I have to go back and the three of you don’t.
Derek patted his friend’s shoulder in support and comfort.
Sorry bud, but we weren’t really sent to her for her to train us how to use our powers. She was training us to act as a unit. As soon as we learned that, our powers kicked in and we knew how to use them. Mrs. Jenkins is a Genie and teaches and trains genies, not angels. It’s really not so bad is it?
Derek knew he missed having them all together with him.
Nah, I can handle her.
Monty shrugged his shoulders. Besides, Habib is pretty cool.
They all thought of Habib. He is an element and Mrs. Jenkins’s long time, best and closest friend. He is devoted to her. Habib can change into anything he wants. Mostly he likes to be a dog and beg sweets from Mrs. Butterfield. She owns the sweetshop in Nine Elms.
Mentioning Habib had the three remembering the time Monty tried to kick him when he was in his dog form and landing flat on his back for his efforts.
Of course the three of them could hear each other’s thoughts and they all tried very hard not to laugh at the memory. That, they knew, would really upset Monty. Instead they changed the subject to cheer him up.
Alex, Sarah and Derek each knew what the other did from the time they separated after the battle because their minds were all linked to each other. But Monty didn’t have that power and they didn’t want him to feel left out. They each took turns telling each other about what they had been doing. Of course Monty knew what Derek did because they are next door neighbours in South Africa.
Monty felt better by the time they all went down to gather in the parlor with their families.
Having what the children had in common lent to an enjoyable and comfortable weekend for all the families. Hans took them all on a tour of his city. He treated them to dinners at the finest restaurants and pointed out the best shops for their shopping pleasures.
On passing her test, Alex was given her own car and took her friends out to show it off. She allowed each one to take turns driving it. However, she did have some concern when it came to Monty’s turn, but he proved himself very adept in his driving skills and did not try to show off. Alex was grateful for that and could see in some ways Monty was maturing, but never lost the fact that he is a genie. Genies are notorious for playing pranks.
It was wonderful how all the parents got along and began to bond together. It should come as no surprise how quickly they did bond and that it will last forever. They all do have something special in common, their gifted children and Grandchildren.
The last day of their visit they spent enjoying the hospitality of their host. They were shown around the magnificent gardens gracing the estate. The perfume filled the air as they herded through the well organized and orchestrated garden paths. The brilliance of colours was breathtaking. In the evening some of the parents enjoyed a round of cards while others sat comfortably chatting.
The kids politely excused themselves and went upstairs to have one last evening together. Alex took them into the game room. Monty and Derek headed straight for the pool table to start a game of pool, while the girls went to the other end of the room and put on some music and sat down to have some long overdue girl talk.
The chosen ones felt more relaxed now. Each realized they had been a little anxious since returning to their homes and did not understand what was causing it. It was while they were gathered here at Alex’s home they discovered it was the separation from each other that had them feel that way. Even though they kept linked mentally with each other, the distance had an uncomfortable affect on them. It felt like somehow they were not whole away from each other. It left them jittery.
This is something they now knew they’d have to figure out a solution to. They all knew it was extremely important to feel whole and not fragmented. That they realized will make them vulnerable.
CHAPTER TWO
The Mission
D erek and Monty were enjoying their competitive game of pool. Alex and Sarah were laughing at little antidotes they were telling each other.
When the game of pool was over, Derek having let Monty win, they walked companionably over to where the girls sat. Monty kibitzed on how his skills at pool were far superior to Derek’s. The chosen ones went along goodheartedly with his boasting.
Even though they were all relaxed, the battle they fought was still on their minds. It seemed like a good time for them all to hash out what they went through.
They talked over each step each one of them took, even the part about the angels putting Monty under a spell. Monty was still a little miffed about that since it kept him out of the main battle. The other’s tried to cheer him up by telling him that it was because of that, that they were able to win. Monty shrugged his shoulders not really being able to believe it but went along with them anyway. There was nothing he could do to change the circumstances now. Inwardly he felt he could have been a lot more help to them if his mind had not been messed with.
Once they finished talking about the battle, all minds seemed to be in sync as their thoughts turned to what Lucifer’s next plans would be.
It was at that moment that a visitor popped in, literally popped in. A man wearing a white-hooded cloak suddenly appeared to stand before them.
Rafael,
Sarah greeted him with a wide smile.
Rafael bowed to them. I see you still wear your pendants. That is good.
He addressed the chosen ones.
We will never take them off.
Alex spoke for her and the other two.
As she spoke each reached up to touch their pendant proudly hanging around their necks. The pendants began to glow in anticipation of the reason for his visit.
Rafael, this is an unexpected pleasure to see you again.
Alex’s brow wrinkled. Are you here to help us celebrate getting our license?
Of course she knew this was not his reason for coming, but did not want to keep Monty out of the loop.
There is no cause to congratulate you as we knew you would pass the test.
He simply stated the fact.
I have been summoned to come here and ask that the three of you go to your safe room immediately. Godiamus wishes to speak with you.
He smiled gently at them all and then instantly disappeared.
The chosen ones stood up. Derek looked over at Monty and saw his eyes fill with anger knowing he could not go with them. He was being left out again.
Monty, we need you to go and tell our families that we have to go and hopefully will be back shortly.
Now I’m an errand boy, great,
Monty seethed.
Derek laid his hand on his friend’s shoulder sending out calming waves through him. We need you to do this for us bud. We will fill you in if we are allowed to, you know that. We have to go now so please tell our families.
They joined hands all thinking of the safe room and disappeared from the game room.
Instantly they were inside the safe room created for them in the Heavens. They were pleased to see their mothers were already there waiting for them. Each one took a seat at the table.
Before the battle they would have rushed to their mothers and talked incessantly but this time they all waited quietly for whatever was going to happen.
The three full angels sat in very large chairs due to their massive size. The chosen ones sat in regular high back cushioned chairs.
They did not have long to wait.
The room filled with His voice the moment they were seated. They were not allowed to see Godiamus since they were still half human. Although the voice resounding through the room was loud it was also very comforting, like a nice warm blanket.
My chosen ones, I fear I must call upon you once again.
The three angels lifted their hands placing them together in front of their chests and bowed their heads in reverence to Him. Their huge wings fanned out. A halo of soft light shone around them.
The chosen ones sat motionless waiting for Him to continue. This was the first time they had heard His voice. The enormous amount of love it gave off filled them. The love was so powerful it caused tears to fill their eyes overflow and spill out to run down their faces. They were completely humbled. Their pendants had never before glowed so brightly.
"Something that will affect mankind
