Of the Moment: An Anthology of Verse

About this ebook
Carolyn Rose Durling
I have loved poetry since I was a child and find that everyday situations as well as current topics steal their way onto my head and heart and therefore leave me with no option other than to pen as I find. Nature, war, spirituality, animals, life, emotions, all have a story to tell, and I enjoy forming words to highlight these subjects and hopefully to delight the readers’ palette.

YOUR GUIDE
To Mum, who still guides me from the other side.
Many thanks go to my family and friends, for their endless support and encouragement. A special thank you to my friends Jayne for her hours of patience and understanding while editing this book, and to Edna who collated, and made sense of my scribble.

An Anthology of Verse…….
KNOCK ON WOOD
I selected carefully what I should say
and how to word my poem today,
with my serious head on I decided to unfurl
what’s currently going on in the world.
On second thought, would it be best
to leave well alone and not be a pest?
Should I make people laugh in light hearted prose,
or would that get up someone’s nose?
Perhaps a tear jerker, to tug on heart strings,
or maybe some lyrics for others to sing.
A spiritual piece to uplift the soul, or
a tip or two on how to reach your goal.
I finally decided to just be myself,
and to do the best that I could
with what’s in my head, apart from the wood.
I’ve nothing to lose, and perhaps something to gain,
so I’ve reached the conclusion, it’s been worth the pain,
and leave it to you to decide if it’s all been in vain.
PAST TIMES
I hankered after passing times!
Threw caution to the wind.
Re -kindled flames, where only embers had remained.
Yet! Still somehow expected yesterdays to be the same.
I fired my imagination!
Walked down memory lane in trepidation
lest my thoughts betrayed my pain.
I stealthily gained a foothold
within my hearts domain.
Reluctant to let go of that tiny flickering flame.
Then I gazed into the future, and saw what I would lose,
by living in past memories, I knew I had to choose!
So! One last glance, then the picture dimmed.
I had dampened the flames smoldering within.
I poured oil on troubled
