American Soldier Poems - Gerald Lewis Geiger
THE CREED OF MILITARY SERVICE
The thing that makes us kin
Is not the place of birth we share
But the uniform we wear.
The fact that makes us noble
Is not the background we are from
But the duty we perform.
The thought that keeps us going
Is not a glimpse of peace at last
But the mem’ry of our glories past.
In homage to the dead,
With honor our guide,
So are we dignified.
The faith that makes us free
Is rooted in our skill
And anchored in the power of our will.
The truth that makes us strong
Is the best in us we give
And the flag by which we live!
THE FLAG
Covering thousands of dead,
Buried in earth and at sea;
Carried through shot and shell,
Tattered, never it fell.
Charge after charge it led,
Rallied the surging ranks;
Grasped from faltering hands,
Planted in faraway lands.
See it unfurled in glory!
Love it with all your heart!
Shield it with all your might,
Standing for Good and Right!
Honor the Pledge to the Flag,
Holding the Ensign high.
True to your mission sublime,
Guard it well for all time!
Proudly it snaps in the breeze,
Raised after battles won.
Now let it wave from the mast,
Hail its glorious past!
WE SHALL REMEMBER YOU
Memorial Chant
You warriors on the land,
The sea and in the sky,
Be present, you, or absent,
In our hearts accounted for.
WE SHALL REMEMBER YOU
In foreign lands you fought,
In alien soils you rest,
Swept clear the skies and seas,
Gave all and did your best.
WE SHALL REMEMBER YOU
Be not averse to fame
And glory never shun!
They are your due reward
For victory, hard-won!
WE SHALL REMEMBER YOU
We will recall your deeds,
With gratitude abide
In loving reverence
And speak your names with pride.
WE SHALL REMEMBER YOU
Now is your victory complete,
Your praise and rest well earned.
The world views you with awe:
You taught and mankind learned.
WE SHALL REMEMBER YOU
Now snowflakes* softly fall,
Like crystal teardrops angels weep:
And those who gave us all
A loving God will gently keep.

Like tender angel kisses,
And those who gave their all

917.pngSOLDIER OF GOD
I am the soldier of my God.
I pledge my life to Him and mine.
The Sun may set but it will rise.
My faith is strong; it never dies.
Down on my knees, I reach for Him.
My head to Him I bare and bow.
Down dips my forehead t’ward the sand.
He lifts me up with outstretched hand.
He boosts my spirit so it sings;
He makes my sinew turn to steel.
He guides me sure toward my
