My dearest Heavenly Father, all glory and honor
be unto you and your precious
Son Jesus Christ!
It is because of you that I live, breathe and have my being.
There is no one greater and more magnificent than you. You are the reason that I am and I praise you for always being there for me every time I need you.
You never grow weary of me even in times when I fail to
acknowledge you. Thank you for sending your only begotten Son Jesus to die for me; I am forever grateful for the blood he has shed on Calvary for the redemption of my soul!
It is all well with my soul!
Love Your Daughter, Helen
Foreword
By Bishop Claude R. Barnes
First let me say, it was a pleasant surprise when I received Helen’s manuscript, along with her letter, asking me to write the foreword for her first book. I considered this an honor and my reply was, yes, it would be my privilege.
When I began reading her manuscript, I found it difficult to put the material down. I was impressed with the contents, coming from the heart of a young lady that I have seen grow from a teenager to a beautiful Christian woman.
I served as her pastor, of the Church of Faith, for thirty seven years. I have been married for 49 years to a wonderful woman, First Lady Doris Barnes. During my tenure, I have done numerous counseling sessions and marriages. When I began to read the manuscript, my wife and I could identify with what was being expressed.
When I had finished reading the manuscript, I was deeply impressed. Knowing Helen’s beginning and the struggles she has encountered in her life, I have concluded that this book was written by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. With such display of wisdom and encouragement, my heart was filled with joy.
Helen’s inspirational words are doctrinal sound, full of wisdom and practical in application. I would recommend this book for any Christian and especially first ladies and minister’s wives. It would be food for thought in living this Christian life.
Helen you have my blessing and I pray that you will be blessed for your effort.
Your Father in Christ,
Bishop Claude R. Barnes
Acknowledgements
To my precious Lord and Savior Jesus, the Christ, the Anointed One you are a loving friend, my true companion, leader, and the everlasting joy of my life. Thank you for dying for me, thank you for always being there. Your promises are unfailing, most Holy and faithful one. One day I shall see you face to face and will finally understand why you love me so. As I await your return, keep me in your arms of protection and in the center of your will. My soul longs to hear you say, well done my good and faithful servant! My Friend, my Lord, and my King, I love YOU!
To my wonderful husband, Pastor, and father of our son . . . Jeremiah you have been my inspiration for this book as we continue to share so many experiences together throughout our lives. There were times when I didn’t know how or if we were going to make it, the challenges seemed so great. Yet, God sustained us when there was no one else we could depend on to get us through life’s tests. I know our Redeemer lives! Jeremiah, know that you are beloved of the Father and special in the eyesight of the Lord. He promised never to forsake you so take courage and thrust forward in the vision that God has embedded in your heart and don’t look back! I love you now and forever!
To my vivacious son of valor—Tyler, you are more than a gift from God, you were chosen by him to be a great man of valor, courage and integrity. The Lord has made you the head and not the tail and you shall be above only and not beneath. Tyler you are free spirited and full of life! Never allow anyone or anything to separate you from the love of God. Remember you are a leader and God has great things in store for you! Be blessed my son, mother loves you with all my heart!
To my spiritual father in the Lord, Bishop Claude R. Barnes you may never understand the influence you have had over my life since I was a child. You were always there when I needed you; you listened as I shared my concerns and issues even though at times you may have been busy or tired from serving others and taking care of your family. Your love and patience with me is what gave me hope to keep living. You never gave up on me through all of my struggles—this is the God I saw then and continue to see in you. I love you more than you will ever, ever know. Love your daughter in Christ.
To my First Lady, Doris H. Barnes—you are elite and a wonderful role model for every woman and young lady. God has truly separated you unto a great work! You are a beautiful wife, an awesome mother to your children, a wonderful grandmother, a friend and example to the world overall. You are an Ornament of Beauty
that reflects the pure love of God. You are my inspirational influence, I love you mother in Christ.
To my wonderful mother and dearest friend Catherine M. Robinson no words can ever express how my heart loves you so! We have been through more than anyone could ever imagine or believe. You have been more than a mother to me. You’re always there to listen when I need someone to talk to in confidence. The relationship we have is indescribable, one that only our heavenly Father could understand. God has kept you even as Satan desired to destroy you through sickness and all kinds of adversity. If I haven’t learned anything else, I have come to learn by witnessing what you have experienced in life that No weapon formed against us shall prosper.
Know that you are a blessed woman of God and highly favored of the Lord! Trust in God always mother, He is with you. I love you!
To my dearest father Henry Terrell you are the most unique man I have ever known. I praise God for having a father such as you in my life. We have a relationship that no one can touch; you’re always there for me—always. Daddy, God loves you dearly and more than you can ever dream. Continue to be consistent and remain as God has created you to be. Grow in grace and in the knowledge of God and may your latter days be your greatest! Love your daughter, Helen.
To my loving sister, Davida Kinning—you are a beautiful person from the inside out. I have always admired you for your determination and self discipline. You have passed the baton to your lovely children, my niece and nephew Jessica and Jason. As children ourselves we had a wonderful childhood and were blessed to have been raised in a family with lots of love. We were taught how to love and reverence God at a young age. This is what has kept us and God’s love will keep us until the end of time. Be strong my sister and continue to learn of God, know that the Lord is on your side. There is nobody greater than God and He will never fail you. I love you precious!
To my big brother, Brian Terrell—you are such an inspiration to me. I am so proud to be your sister, you’re handsome and intelligent; you love and respect your wife and daughter and most of all you live by a good standard. You know that God is the head and he has blessed your life with so much happiness, joy and prosperity. You can accomplish anything through Christ! Continue to love God, your family and others and be abundantly blessed! Your little sis looks up to you Brian and prays for the best for you. Love your little sweetheart—Helen.
To the woman God has used as the driving force in my life—Mother Kathleen Nichols no words can express how much I truly appreciate and love you mother. You and I have shared so many wonderful times together. You have nurtured and consoled me at times when I was discouraged and didn’t know which way to go. You have a vigorous commitment and dedication to God like none other I have known. You continue to hold up the blood stained banner as you walk boldly in Christ. You never allowed yourself to become complacent, always striving to do better in Christ; that is why I love you so much, you never exemplify a double standard. You always maintain consistency in your walk and it was your life that showed me who God is and that He is truly real and worth living for. May you ever be blessed and one day finally find sweet peace and rest in the bosom of our Father. I love you mother Nichols! Love always your daughter . . . Helen.
To all my loving relatives and friends—there are not enough words to say how much you truly mean to me. One thing I must say is that we all need one another to make it in this life, we all have something to contribute not only to those we know but especially to those we don’t know. God is love and he commands us to love as a result of the love he has shown to us through his precious Son Jesus. If it were not for Jesus, you and I would not be—it is through him that we live and move and have our being. We are not our own,
