    Preface

Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a rare condition that may have devastating effects for a teenager and their family. A huge part of getting better from CRPS involves understanding what is going on. There is some information available for adults, but there is none for teenagers. The principal aim of this book is to provide clear information for teenagers who have CRPS. It is hoped that this information will be used to demystify CRPS and, therefore, aid in its management and the journey to recovery. With this understanding, teenagers will be able to take part in the decisions that affect their health and body.

In an effort to make this book useful, we asked a focus group of teenagers to provide their feedback. This focus group included teenagers who have been treated for CRPS.

Medical terms throughout the book have been explained so that they are understandable for teenagers.

Cartoons of Harold the alpha lion, who develops CRPS, relays the journey from diagnosis to recovery.
