FOREWORD
ABDUL-RAHMAAN ABD-RAHEEM MUHAMMAD:
BEATING THE DRUM
He leads us on to the sinuous syncopation of symphonic rhythms. Life and love have no separation in these beats. The discordant heightens and uses our sensibilities, while much sweetness are contained within.
Out of time and out of space has been the invisible man. Yet Abdu1-Rahmaan’s visibility and viability have the form, structure and basics that pervade the man and re-create the man. That man has been and is through the many sons of our loins—our recreation.
The flow and unity of his poetry speaks to our kinship. The kinship of healing, dealing, sharing and caring. He beats a clashing, clanging, comforting, banging, pulsating, booming and all-embracing drum!
Through his sounds, let freedom guide your choice for our rhythms to weld and our beings to unify.
Atkins Preston
PREFACE
In the following pages you will experience the evolution of a poet and his poetry. The purposes of this book are to bring enlightment to growing minds; to provide, so far as possible, a poetic view of the evolutionary stages of growth and development of a former Christian who became a follower of the teachings of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad in the Nation of Islam, and a follower of the leadership of Imam Warith Deen Muhammad in the American Muslim Mission, submitting his will to Allah, the Holy Quran, and the Sunna of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
It should be known that throughout these stages of growth my sole search has been a search for one thing, and one thing only. That thing is truth. In these pages are condensed many important statements of truth and religious fact, thanks to the blessings of Allah.
I advise that you read this book through the first time without attempting to master its contents. Then, re-read it carefully in the light of the knowledge that comes to you from first reading. As you read, note the levels of growth, stage by stage, that Allah blesses the writer to encounter.
It should also be known that there is no conscious effort to please the reader for monetary considerations. The value of this book is not represented by the nominal price at which it is sold. My desire in writing these poems has been to relate the TRUTH as I have been blessed to perceive it during my journey of life.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH OF ABDUL-RAHMAAN ABD-RAHEEM MUHAMMAD
Born on February 10th, 1944, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi as Andrew Sylvester Thomas. He was the product of an out of wedlock teen age pregnancy. His mother, Elnora Jackson was 13 years old when he was born. Elnora was informally adopted by the Jackson Family after being abandoned in a New Orleans Hospital. The Jackson family moved from New Orleans, La. to Hattiesburg, Mississippi shortly before the birth of the baby. Soon after the birth Elnora and her child, whose name was Andrew, moved in with the parents of Elnora’s adoptive father. Both Elnora and her baby were then raised by her grandparents Sylvester and Mattie McClourign, known to the family and the Palmers Crossing community as Big Dad and Maw-Tumple.
Elnora or Baybay as she was known by everyone was a very affectionate mother to her child. She subsequently married Johnnie Adams, and they had two daughters, Irma Louise who was named by her brother, and Lorine. A fourth boy born prior to the girls died soon after birth.
Early on in the late 40’s, the marriage had ended and the mother and two young daughters returned to Mississippi A
