    About the Author

    Acknowledgment

I take this opportunity to thank the following persons:

My wife, Nathley, for her encouragement, support, and critique.

My children, Calvin and Olesya, to whom this book is dedicated.

Reverend Pastor Eugene and Reverend Dr. Rosetta V. Clare of Rhema International Family Development Centre of Nassau, Bahamas, whose teachings, life, and ministry have inspired me to write this book.

Pastor Ginette Howse of Malvern Christian Assembly, Scarborough, Ontario, Canada for her prayers and encouragement.

    Prologue

The Bible has always been viewed by many as a religious book, containing the Word of God, revealed to mankind through the inspiration of His Spirit. It is filled with words of inspiration, wisdom, and prophesies. The Bible is not just a history book, but it is filled with the sojourns of people who view themselves as God’s chosen.

The stories of the bible reveal the history of kings and ordinary people, both young and the old, those righteous and evil. It chronicles their destinies in a way that emphasizes rewards for those who were righteous and punishment for those that were evil. The destinies of the people whose lives were chronicled in the Bible were characterized and governed by the choices they made. It recorded their successes and their failures, their triumphs and defeats.

For many, the Bible reveals God’s plan and purpose for mankind during their sojourn in the earth. Within God’s universal plan for mankind, there are many individual plans and purposes. God has a plan for each person, and each person has been born with a purpose. Fulfillment of each individual’s purpose works toward the fulfillment of God’s overall plan. However, the reality is that most people do not know their purpose in life; they are not in a position to understand God’s plan and never work toward fulfilling the reason for their sojourn in the earth.

Each person born in the earth is different. Unless there are identical siblings, people rarely look the same in their physical makeup throughout their lives. In regards to their idiosyncrasies, mental, emotional, and psychological attributes, each person is unique. We are all wired differently, and we each have our own passions.

In the womb, my son Calvin exhibited little movement and took his own quiet time—more than twenty hours of labor in coming into the world. My daughter Olesya appeared to be a kung fu fighter in the womb and took less than four hours of labor to enter the world.

Today, my son is generally reserved and quiet; he is not easily rushed and is extremely meticulous in completing tasks assigned to him. In tasks that involve the use of his hands, whether in cleaning the car or assembling a circuit board, his meticulous attribute produces his best work.

My daughter, however, is loud and seeks to do everything fast. She uses her voice to articulate and promote who she is and wants to be—whether in singing, dancing, or in public speaking and does not shy away in front of a crowd.

They are from the same womb and of the same seed; they always have been with their parents, living in their parents’ presence all of their lives. They have been born with different purposes, and the paths to fulfilling those purposes would be different.

The inspiration for writing this book came out of my experience as a youth leader at Rhema Christian Ministries under the teachings of Reverend Eugene and Reverend Dr. Rosetta V. Clare, and seven years as an educator of high school students in Nassau, Bahamas. It was a privilege to teach, guide, and try to inspire teenagers to focus on educating themselves and fulfilling their dreams and purposes in life.

The Essentials Volume 1, are quotes that are drawn mostly from my unique insight into the life and experiences of Bible characters and teachings of scripture. The Essentials are the product of a deductive, inductive, and a revelatory approach to understanding and interpreting events in the lives of biblical individuals and writings of scripture. They are formulated in relation to how they reflect and speak to destiny and purpose.

The purpose of writing The Essentials is to inform, instruct, and inspire people regardless of their religious belief and orientation, to operate successfully within their destiny, and to fulfill their righteous purpose in life. My hope is that they can look at the life experiences of people within their own societies and beyond and draw from them the essential Essentials.

    What are the Essentials?

The essentials are attributes we must acquire, idiosyncrasies we must dispel, lessons we must learn, empowerment we must seek for, and actions we must take to be able to operate successfully within our destiny and assure the fulfillment of our purpose.

    Purpose and Destiny

    1. Our purposes were created for our discovery; they find reflection through our passions and are often revealed in the process of time.

    2. Our destinies are governed, affected, and unfolded by the choices we make or choices that are made on our behalf.

    3. Destiny is not a place but a dimension in space and time in which dynamic occurrences are taking place, in, around, and through us to prepare, compel, and propel us to the next level.

    4. Destiny is wrapped up in our purpose for living, and it is necessary that they be in sync with each other.

    5. The ideal realm where purpose and destiny are in perfect sync with each other is called a rhema realm.

    6. In the rhema realm, the expressed words come alive and manifest their intent.

    7. In the rhema realm, the right words are spoken—for and at the right time; for and in the right place; and for to fulfill the right purposes.

    8. Right words are faith-filled utterances (words based upon a known or believed truth) that motivate action to achieve the desired purposes.

    9. The right place is the location for which the words are relevant to the circumstance, environment, and time.

    10. The right purpose is the objective that glorifies the intent of the right utterances.

    What is Success?

    1. Success is often defined as the achievement of something desired, planned, or attempted.

    2. Success is an innate ability with which you were born and have activated; and, or which you have cultivated through knowledge and training, whether through a formal or informal institution.

    3. The seeds of success are planted within the hearts of men and women when they meditate day and night on the precepts that breeds success and confess the virtues of their power.

    4. The constant desire of most people is that they are successful in whatever task, goals, and dreams they aspire to fulfill in life.

    5. As humans, we crave for some achievement, some marker in which we can have some satisfaction as we search for purpose in our life.

    6. When we achieve something of worth, we hold on to it, and when times get rough, we turn it for comfort and look to it for inspiration.

    7. For some, the marker is symbol of hope and of what is possible, while for others, it becomes a shrine of hopeless worship and a mark of their limit.
