Memories of 9/11 - Mary Walsh

    Foreword

The idea for this book came to me in 2020 when I read 11/22/63 by Stephen King - the day President Kennedy was assassinated. People of my parents’ generation always asked, Where were you when JFK was shot? That got me thinking and I posed the question: Where were you when the towers fell on 9/11? I asked friends and family to tell me their stories and word spread. This book is full of those memories.

Within a couple of days, I had reached out to everyone I cared about to make sure that they and their families were safe. I didn't know anyone who died that day, but friends and family did. A friend of a friend was in the North Tower that day. He survived but many of his coworkers did not. I had heard he struggled with Survivor's Guilt for a long time after...

My 9/11 memories are far more vivid than the JFK assassination and not because they are more recent. My parents, Dad and [stepmother] Dorothy, had picked that day to go on vacation. They planned to fly to the West Coast, rent a car, and do sightseeing for several weeks. I knew no other details than that, no from or to, no hotels, etc. After all, they were adults and didn't need to report to me! Thus, when the
