It was September 11, 2001.
The date was not yet imprinted in history as I sat on my flight home from London to Houston, Texas.
Then, about four hours into the journey, the captain made an announcement.
‘There’s a problem with US airspace,’ he said. ‘We’re going to land in Newfoundland, Canada.’
Confused and worried, I sat tight as we touched down.
I was travelling alone, having visited my son, Mike, 40, who was in England, so I didn’t have anyone to share
