About this ebook
As a serial killer targets prostitutes in Southern California, a troubled traffic cop picks up the trail in this thrilling prequel to The Girl on the Bus.
When traffic cop Leighton Jones is called to sort out an altercation in a used car lot, he is confronted by a prostitute rambling on about a girl who stole her coat. He thinks nothing of it—until the body of a Jane Doe shows up, matching the prostitute’s description. Could there be a link between the fight in the car lot and the dead woman?
Leighton proceeds to gather evidence. But when he brings his findings to the lead Homicide detective, he’s told to back off. A suspect has been arrested. Yet the case is far from closed. And as Leighton keeps digging, he finds himself on the trail of a serial killer . . .

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Carpenter Road by N.M. BrownLeighton Jones is a policeman working in Oceanside, California. He does not get along with one of the the police captains who seems to have it in for him. His personal life seems a bit lonely and his partner away as he is busy with a dying father. As he works on the street driving his police car, checking for drunk drivers, and settling disputes he doesn’t see a lot of the seamier side of life or work on murder cases…not usually anyway. On one of his calls to a dispute at a used car lot he runs into a woman who ends up being one of the last people to see a woman who ends up murdered. Leighton picks up tidbits here and there as he unearths what the homicide detective on the case is letting slide. With a teenage daughter upset with him, a boss that is on a power trip, women disappearing at the hands of a serial killer and his curiosity engaged in trying to find the murderer this proved to be a great police procedural that eventually unearths the bad guy and puts him away for good. I believe this could be an entertaining series if the author chooses to continue writing about this character. Thank you to NetGalley and Bloodhound Books for the ARC – This is my honest review. 4-5 Stars
