Chapter 1
Jett Ryder tensed as the wave rolled toward his stand-up paddleboard.
His best friend Mika Moore cheered from her board nearby. You got this, Jett!
They were on Seattle’s Elliott Bay. Both of them lived close by, and they had rented paddleboards with their families. Jett’s parents were on their own boards, several yards back. Mika’s mom had decided to watch the group from shore.
Jett leaned forward. The wave wasn’t huge, but it was larger than anything they had encountered so far. And it had appeared almost out of nowhere. Flecks of white foam leaped from the crest. Just before the wave hit, the front of Jett’s board dipped. Then the sea
