Chapter One

Hello, my name is Adam. I have three siblings by birth and two sisters by adoption. Change is a word I learned about early in life. My family was on rocky ground: my parents, Will and Mary, were getting a divorce. Neither of them was making enough money to support four children, and we were set to become wards of the state. We went to live with Will’s parents out in the country. We lived there for a year, awaiting what the outcome of the courts would be regarding our fate.
